A guest from Caldwell, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2016 Very good vacation rental experience! By The Sea is a favorite rental, and it was very clean and just perfect. My only suggestion would be to add to the available dishes a couple of vegetable type serving bowls.
DERICK T. from american fork, UT recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2016 The house was pretty nice, easy location for hitting the beach with young kids they loved it.. It was pretty clean as well there where a few things annoyed like the blinds in the bedroom almost ready to fall off but other then that it was good for the price
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and will take care of the blinds in the bedroom. We hope we can help you plan your next vacation here at the beach.
A guest from Denver, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2016 We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and really enjoyed it. About a mile outside of downtown Rockaway was the perfect distance to get some peace and quiet. Simple but cute furnishings, and loved the ocean view!
Kory K. from Cheney, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in May, 2016 Overall, we had an enjoyable time. The cottage is very dated, but the location and privacy make up for it. It would have been nice to know that the 1.5 bathrooms didn't include a bathtub, making it very difficult to give our 1-year old a bath after spending the day in the sand. The pictures we saw implied that the cottage was directly in the beach, however that wasn't the case and there was another house in between. Knowing what we know now, we'd still likely return next year.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. We will update the wording on the description to better clarify the Shower Only bathroom and the location. We hope we can help you plan your next vacation here at the beach.
Marissa H. from Vancouver, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2016 This place is in a great spot, on a quiet end of town just two doors down from the beach. You can watch the waves while reading a book from the living room, or wile sitting on the porch. The house is bigger than it looks and had plenty of room.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and hope we can help you plan your next vacation here at the beach.
Allison R. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in May, 2016 We had an incredibly relaxing weekend for Mother's Day in Rockaway and loved staying at By The Sea! We could hear the ocean at night and relax on the porch in perfect view of the waves (when we weren't down on the sand!). The house had everything we needed, was laid out perfectly and felt cozy and inviting -- we will be back for many more visits!!!!
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and hope we can help you plan your next vacation here at the beach.
Michelle M. from Lake Stevens, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2016 My family had a wonderful time in this charming cottage. My dog had an even better time! The cottage was clean and quite spacious and very dog & kid friendly. I loved the cabinets in the kitchen and living room. We were just a few steps from the beautiful beach and fell asleep listening to the surf. It was wonderful. We can't wait to come back!
Alan K. from Omaha, NE recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2015 We spent a week at By the Sea for Christmas. This was our second time. The beach house is very cozy, very warm and inviting. Some of the amenities are showing some age, such as the VCR or the dishwasher which was really noisy. However, if you are looking for a nice place to stay that is relatively inexpensive and is right next to the beach, (though not directly on it) this is a great deal. We will probably return, a great place to spend the holiday with family.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and hope we can help you plan your next vacation here at the beach. We will pass your comments regarding the VCR and dishwasher to the owner.
Jeremy M. from Garden City, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2015 The best part about house was the location to the beach! House is dated, so if you're looking for something extravagant, keep on looking. The size is for a small family. Only one small shower, so it's not ideal for more than 3 or 4 people. If you want a budget rental that is cozy and near the beach, this isn't a bad place. We had a pleasant time and overall enjoyed our stay.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals Thank you for your review of By the Sea. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. If you are planning to come down again with a larger group we would love to send you some other options that would work better for you. This a a great unit for a couple or small family.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in September, 2015 Completely enjoyed staying in this rustic little cabin by the sea! This is not a luxury beach home, so if that is what you are looking for stay away... but if you would like to stay in a simple well maintained home a stone's throw from the sand this is the place! I loved that the art and furniture, though not new, was obviously deliberately curated for the space. The beds were comfortable, and the home was very clean, with fresh paint, etc. Certainly a good value! The only thing that I would change would be the addtition of some doors or curtains on the lower kitchen shelves as they are just left open. Good for easy access but not so great family of four will be back!
A guest from Everett, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2015 Although our stay was brief we were very pleased with the house. The view was nice and great location with a short walk to the beach. The house was clean and well appointed. We will consider this house again in the future.
Chad B. from Great Falls, MT recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2015 It was a fun and relaxing vacation. The beach was such a short walk that it was easy to carry all the things my family needed to each a day on the beach. My 2 children and my dog absolutely enjoyed the beach the must. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable to stay in.
A guest from Vancouver, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in June, 2015 Great location! Very responsive management team. Very clean, good ammenities. Furnishings could use updating and no WiFi. We return each year to spend a week or more??
John M. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2015 Great location and nice house...could use a new couch and master bed. Need to clean under the walkway...garbage from over-turned can.All in all would recommend,
Teri K. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2015 the only problems we had was the washing machine wouldn't open when we left, then my husband went back in and it opened. so I don't know if you just had to wait 5-10 min until it opens. I think the directions on it could have been a little more clear.
Reba M. from Vancouver, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2014 The house is in a great location with a view of the ocean when you are sitting on the porch and gazing out the front windows. Very quiet and rustic cute inside. They could use a new couch (very uncomfortable) and some privacy blinds in the front windows. We would stay here again.
A guest from Tualatin, OR does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2014 I am a very practical person and don't require fancy extras, so the simplicity of this home was fine. However, the basic of this home were incredibly lacking! The kitchen was not stocked for cooking, not even a knife for chopping. The lighting in the living room was so poor we had difficulty playing games at the kitchen table. The furniture was so uncomfortable and the slip covers were literally in rags; ripped and falling off. One of the lamp shades was in shreds. The pillows on the beds were disgusting! They must have been as old as the house! And, the beds did not have blankets on them other than the thin bed spreads. The extra blankets in the closet were smelly and literally holey. We had a great time and made the most of our stay, knowing we were together is what counts. But, it would have been nice to chop my veggies with something other than a steak knife and it would have been nice to be warm at night and not grossed out by the pillows. Oh, and those comfy looking chairs on the deck? Well, we were left with flimsy, plastic chairs. Oh, and the bbq didn't work, which changed our dinner plans one night.
Laura D. from Dallas, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2014 This was our annual family reunion beach trip to Rockaway. We have been going there for 50 plus years staying in various cabins. By the Sea was in a great location and had everything we needed. We were a little disappointed we did not have cable for 3 1/2 days, but the movies that were in the house saved us! And we visited more with our grown up children. We will keep this one in mind for next year, however, our family is growing with 2 new grandchildren on the way and we may need something bigger! We really liked the location of this house, the beach was so close, it was wonderful!
Pam D. from Vancouver, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2014 This was our second stay and foe a longer period (6 nights) and we were not disappointed! Very nice, clean home with a wonderful ocean view and 1/2 block from the beach.Furniture starting to show wear and tear but overall In Good shape:)We will be back!
Lance O. from Milwaukie, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in February, 2014 This is an outstanding cabin a literal stone's throw from the beach. A wonderful place to take your kids and play cards at night and run your dog in the morning on the beach. We absolutely will return.
Steve C. from Seattle, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2014 The location was very good and the place was clean, but in that price point I would expect to have nice towels and more comfortable furniture. I realize it is a beach house, but certainly towels are not a great expense. Also, as we were there during a storm, we looked for flashlight and or candles. Finally purchased candles in case of a power outage.
Dawn G. from West Linn, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in January, 2014 The house was nice and cozy with a comfortable bed, plenty of clean towels and a well equipped kitchen. The only negative was that the front windows did not have any kind of privacy curtains and while the house is located on a quiet street, it would still be nice to have a bit more privacy at night. We ended up putting blankets over the wicker shades so it all worked out just fine. We would return to this home in the future.
A guest from Kirkland, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2014 Pleasant house, decent location 50 yards from the beach. TV reception failed during Seahawks playoff game. Reasonable value for price and would stay here again.
Alan K. from Omaha, NE recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2013 We stayed a week at Rockaway Beach in Oregon in the By the Sea cabin. It was a great stay. The cabin was warm and cozy, more comfortable than it first appeared when we first got there. The view of the beach is not direct, but it is visible from the dinner table quite easily. You are about 50 yds from the beach, with other houses in the path, but if the view is not your primary reason for going to the beach, it is just fine. Beach access is very close and accessible. There were a couple of very minor problems (the lighting was not good and overall the place was a bit dark for reading),but overall it was a very nice place, clean and warm for December in Oregon. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, as was the laundry room. Every room had a TV although we made little use of them. We would go back (and probably will) and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of beach time in the off season.
Alicia P. from Seattle, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2013 The size is perfect for four and a small dog. A vintage feeling kitchen with pretty much all that you need to cook meals. Incredible access to beach. Quite little street, very local feel. Perhaps there could be a few instructions on using the VCR and DVD player. Other than that it was great! We'll definitely be returning..
Nancy B. from Boise, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2013 Close to the ocean, easy access and long span to walk with my dogs. Most everything was clean. The rug in the laundry/shower room was really grungy also the overhead fans looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a long time, lots of dust hanging off of them. There should be a rug in front of the front door where we can take off our shoes. We had to drag the one from in front of the sink over to use. Also the pillows in the bedroom with the twin beds, the bed closest to the wall are horrible and should be replaced. The feathers kept poking threw and the pillows smelled, one was covered in plastic and it was all wadded up and was awful. Loved the funky decor in livinroom and kitchen. Window were nice and tight. Wish we would have got a refund for one day since we left early and let you know the nite before. Am using Homeaway for our trip to Hawaii in June
Cari O. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2013 Washer not working but office explained... also sent kitchen towels since we couldn't find any. Cute cottage - could use another lamp in living room - hard to read at night. I would come again...
Michael D. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2013 What nice place to stay close to other attractions. Tillamook air museum. The Forestry Center. Also Pacific City Pelican Brewery & Pub right on the ocean
Suzanne L. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in March, 2013 We had a great time at this cabin. It was actually nicer than the pictures on the internet showed. Very comfortable and beachy. I would definitely rent it again.
A guest from Hermiston, Oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in March, 2013 We had a great stay, weather cooperated, and the beach within seconds from house. It was a quiet neighborhood so great for kids.
A guest from The Dalles, Oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in February, 2013 This is our second time to rent this house & we thoroughly enjoyed it. Master bed & couch a little uncomfortable, but we'd still rent the house again. Beach access is close by & easy. Nice & quiet area.
Lina B. from Tigard, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2012 I stayed in the rental for 3 nights in August, 2012. The house exceeded my expectations! As previous people mentioned, almost everything is antique-old there and has a slight smell that can be fixed by opening windows, however, everything is functional and the house a certain charm to it. I found plenty of kitchen appliances - coffee maker, new toaster oven, toaster, hand mixer, even deep fryer, though had to improvise with pans. I understand people ruin nonstick pans fast, so it's probably hard to keep up with getting new ones. I found some spices, flour, sugar, probably leftover from the previous vacationers. This place even had a grill on the porch, which I was very excited to see! The listing and agent said - no grill. My husband and his friend fell in love with the very comfortable couch and were wondering where they could get the same one for themselves :) House is generally clean, but things like fans and doors, windows could use an occasional wipe down. The highlights for me where the great view of the ocean from the big windows in the front room and the master bedroom, the grill, washer/dryer; all-in-all it?s a cute comfortable house. Location is great, a few steps from the beach, on the outskirts of the town which meant, cleaner sand, less people; not so close, but still within walk-able distance to downtown and the tiny grocery store. The main TV is upgraded to a flat screen, has basic channels; it would have been very nice to have internet. One thing to note next time, bring your own food! Restaurants in town were overpriced and not-so great/old food, many places close at 5pm so have dinner early, other places opened and closed randomly... The only grocery store is very minimal and overpriced; if you are planning to have a bonfire on the beach, get wood on the way to town since grocery store sells it for $7/bundle. The fun thing to do in town is take the sightseeing train ride to Garibaldi. BIG THANK YOU to the owners of the house for sharin
A guest from Caldwell, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2012 Loved the shabby-chic decor! The location was fabulous. It was very close to the beach, and it was so easy to get down to the beach. It was very nice having the 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. I will definitely rent this beach house again. My sisters and I had a great time there.
A guest from Kenniwick, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2012 It was a cozy little place just steps from the beach! Perfect for a couple or a small family. We enjoyed our stay very much!
DJ M. from Bothell, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2012 Super great place. Quiet, simple and memorable. My 11and a half yr old son asked when we could come back. That was worth the whole trip. Town pizza joint is really, really good.Waking up and going to sleep with crashing waves is worth the rental. Have a fire on the beach or play some games after dinner; you'll have yourself lifetime memories with this place.
Laura M. from Vancouver, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2012 Our experience was very relaxing. Loved the rustic comfy feel of the place. We have had bad experiences in the past & your place gave us hope back that we could find something awesome like your place. We highly suggests staying here to those who want to get away from everything. We thank you and will stay again.
A guest from Vancouver, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2012 Cute little house and very clean but the 1972 Sylvania 17" tv needs to be replaced. Also needs some form of blinds on front windows. It's like being in a fishbowl, even when the bamboo shades are lowered. Why, when you pay a $65.00 cleaning fee do the tenants have to do the dishes and laundry. Could use some deck chairs, also. Nice people to deal with, but would not rent again. For the price, a hotel offers much more. Thasnk you.
A guest from Nampa, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2012 Close to beach. It is definitely retro and the appliances show it. Fridge gave up on our last day. Would be nice to have internet. Overall good value though. This is 3rd time at this house in last 2 years.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals 6/6/12 ...The fridge has been repaired. Thanks for letting us know!
Debbie E. from Rainier, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2010 We enjoyed the cabin very much. The view of the ocean was great and just a short walk and you're on the beach! The only thing that would have improved the stay was if yiu had fewer dining chairs and more comfortable living room chairs. And possibly a dvd player. In the winter there isn't much porch sitting. But overall it was great and I have already recommended it to friends.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals Thank you for your suggestions. A new couch for the living room was purchased
A guest from Hood River, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2010 Could use some front porch seating, only one broken chair available. Coffee table in LR also broken. Could use some more reading lamps, maybe replace 1980s TV in bedroom?! Good for bringing dog to beach, spacious and building generally in good repair.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals Coffee table has been repaired and we will pass on your suggestions to the owner.
A guest from Boise, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2010 Only downer was the hot water heater - it was not functional the first night. But a phone call was all it took - Sunset got right on it.
Timothy G. from Sequim, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2010 Owner's neice (or so she said) was found one day in the property having accessed it with her own key. Said she was looking for her uncle's guitar. They were staying directly next door in the adjacent house. I found this uninvited access into a rented property to be totally inappropriate. Owner's or their families should be required to knock (waiting until renters are in the house) and request entry like any other visitor whenever the property is occupied. She seemed surprised that we came just as she was in the house.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals We apologize that this happened to you during your stay. This issue was brought to the owners attention (they live out of state) and they put a stop to it immediately.
Pat L. from Lewiston, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2010 This may not look like much from the front, but it's very nice and updated inside. The location was wonderful. The decor was retro and we liked it. Some of the electric outlets weren't working but everything else was good. We'd go there again.
Kim G. from Milwaukie, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in December, 2009 This was the perfect cottage for our Christmas get away! The house furnishings were very charming and the overall house itself was very cozy! We would love to come back and stay again!
Molly J. H. from Milwaukie, Oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in August, 2009 We enjoyed a wonderful week in this quaint house just steps from the beach. Loved the laundry facilities and the open floor plan. We would absolutely stay here again!
A guest from Seattle, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2009 the house was great, except for the lousy living room furniture. the couch had a twin mattress for the seat, covered with old fabric to make it look like a real couch. there was no place where we felt comfortable enough to sit down on the furniture. the couch and surrounding chairs are old and dirty, and should be trashed. they look like they were picked up from a free pile, and then covered with matching fabric.otherwise, the house is lovely. the washer and dryer are wonderful, the bedrooms and bathrooms clean, and the location is unbeatable - so close to the beach, jetty fishery, tillamook. we want to go back, but only if the living room furniture gets swapped out.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals I am happy to report the owners replaced the couch and chairs, and the new additions look great!!
A guest from Omak, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2009 Nice and close to the ocean. It was great to walk up off the beach, past a few houses and then to this house (less than 100 yards) to wash off feet outside on the deck. It is obvious the owners have put effort into upgrading the house itself. Nicely done on the "water closet" in the master bedroom. The next step will be to upgrade the furnishings (the one weak link to this property). It was fun and we would recommend it to friends.
April A. from Sammamish, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2009 love the beach, a few steps away. Cottage needs some tender loving care -- flower box was ripped off the front of the house, others filled with weeds. Furniture slip-covers were flimsy and ripped. But overall, clean and location can't be beat. Thanks!
Megan D. from Edmonds, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2009 The only negative item was that when we arrived we found two very old towels in a cupboard. Later I found wet towels in the dryer, and a set of sheets and the bathroom rugs together in the washer, wet. It took quite a bit of time to get them all dry. Also, I don't feel that guests should have to wash their bedding and towels, that should be part of the what we're paying per night. On a more positive note, we had an absolutely wonderful stay on the Oregon coast. We would love to come back again to this property.Thank you for asking about our stay.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals We apologize for the wet laundry. The cleaners were cleaning 2 houses that day and were going back and forth switching out laundry and unfortunately didn't get it finished before your check in. We only ask that you strip the beds and start a load of laundry; you definitely do not need to do all of the laundry unless you have the time to do so. I am glad you had a great stay and we definitely hope to see you again!
A guest from Pasco, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2009 This was a nice house, the only complaint we had is the furniture was very uncomfortable, and TVs need to be updated. Beds were comfortable. Location and view was good. Would like to stay again if furniture was updated.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals Thank you for your suggestions. We are passing them on to the owner
Bobbie P. from Portland, Oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in March, 2009 The cabin was cute, cozy and very clean. I would recommend anyone to go there. It was close to the beach and to town.
A guest from Richland, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2008 What a charming rental! We enjoyed just looking at the character that his house had. And although it isn't "ocean front", you can enjoy the view from the couch in the living room. I would love to stay at By the Sea again! Thankyou to the rental agency for helping us find this at the last minute!
