ORCHID ELUA MEANS "SECOND ORCHID," the newer of two fantastic co-owned homes. Located in Kapoho Vacationland, Orchid Elua and its sister property White Orchid Retreat rest at opposite ends of one of this popular area's unique tide pools. Both homes have breathtaking views of the pond and gardens. Guests can swim in the pond, which is just outside the doors of either home. Steps make it easy to get in and out. The most popular snorkeling area is a walk of just a few minutes. Most rooms in the house as well as the lanai have a view of the pond and tropical vegetation.
ORCHID ELUA IS BRAND NEW (completed in Summer 2008) with wood floors, designer bathrooms, high ceilings, beautiful furniture, and touches of color against its very light background. The custom furnishings were hand-picked and imported from the Philippines where some of the finest Pacific Rim furniture crafters are located. The two-story house is designed to give everyone traveling together lots of privacy.
THERE ARE FOUR BEDROOMS AND FOUR BATHS! The bedrooms have one king bed, two queen beds, and two twin beds giving guests lots of options. All bedrooms have private outdoor lanais, and breezy window coverings made from imported fabric add to the decor. Of course we wouldn't think of offering a place without a nice desk area and high-speed Internet access! The owner insists on high-quality linens and furnishings in both her beautiful homes. Orchid Elua sleeps 8 comfortably.
FOR MORE ADVENTUROUS SNORKELING, just take the 5-minute walk (we'll show you the secret way!) to the Waiopae Marine Conservation Area, acres and acres of oceanfront ponds that contain an astonishing variety of fish, sea creatures, and of course _honu,_ the beloved Hawaiian sea turtles. The tide pools provide a safe and inviting environment for even the novice swimmer to snorkel or just float in crystal-clear 80-degree water year 'round, without worry of surf or currents, perfect for those who are not comfortable in the open ocean. For guests at ease in the water, Kapoho and the rest of the Big Island have much more to explore.
Year-round rate range is $155 - $285 per night, depending upon party size and dates of your visit. Cleaning fee ranges from $150 to $225, also depending upon party size.

The house is for 8 people, there are only 2 saucepan very small and in very bad condition. I used them because there was nothing else but I should not use them at home !BBQ is charcoal and quite small too.I really would recommend this house to anyone with kids.And we had the pleasure to meet Honu in tidal pools, what an experience !!!! |

Stayed for 5 days in October, 2012 We had some difficulty getting online due to an incorrect password but the rental company got it fixed within 24 hours of our bringing it to their attention. The proximity to first rate snorkeling is great. I wouldn't plan on doing any snorkeling in the very tiny section of pond alloted to this property. There is a great restaurant in Pahoa about 8 miles away called Kaleos. Reservations are recommended. The Hilo side is less touristy than the Kona side and so, with that you see more of the locals which is not always a good thing but the Hilo (east) side of the island is much more beautiful in my opinion. |

When we first arrived on the island we stayed at the Hapuna Prince. Awesome resort and was sad to leave. My work was in Hilo and was a little worried about the "rainy" side of the island. Well, it turned out the area around the Orchid Elua was awesome, too. The house was roomy and cozy. Plenty of room for our travel crew of my two children and sister-in law to spread out. It was so relaxing sleeping with the windows and doors open. The evening rain on the palm froms and the chirping frogs were peaceful. The tidal pools down the road was awesome to snorkel in, I even made a point of it to snorkel before work. The area also provides great access to other little by-way parks and beautiful fauna. It was so sad to leave. |

Beautiful home on the Big Island's scenic side Mark V. from Beaverton, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2012 We enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Orchid Elua. The layout of the home was perfect for our group of five. The screened-in patio provided a comfortable space for our group dinners while the four bedrooms afforded each of us privacy -- and our own bathrooms! We especially enjoyed sipping morning coffee on our second-story lanai, gazing at the lush greenery all around us, trying to spot mongooses scurrying through the ferns. One of the few negatives of staying at such a lush, natural area is the bugs. Several seemed to find their way to the roof of our bedroom and bathroom. And while we enjoyed looking at the private tidepool in the backyard, we opted to swim in the much larger tidepool area just a short walk away. The water there was clear, warm and provided excellent snorkeling. And the coqui? They actually reminded me of crickets. Overall, our entire familly enjoyed Orchid Elua and the adventures on the Big Island's scenic side. |

The location was perfect with plenty places to explore with children. The stores were within driving distance and not too long. Plenty of snorkeling spots for the kids that are safe from the surf break. Negative experience was having the smoke detector sound off at 1AM and it could not be turned off since it was connected to the house. Thanks to maintenance for taking care of that. The frogs whistled a bunch but did not bother us one bit. Don't be surprised as I was about the geckos that hide and come out to greet you. At first it startled me but they are considered good luck in the house. They were nice to stay away from me. The picture in the online photo is misleading since the house pond/lagoon like pool shown there is much smaller on our side. We did not snorkel or swim in the pond since the tide pools were more inviting. Kitchen is small but had most of the things needed. The frying pans could be replaced with nicer ones and it would be nice to have a little breakfast nook table/chairs for children to sit and have breakfast instead of outside during the winter months. The house is filled with all the amenities needed and laundry area for clothes. We discovered that we packed way too much clothes. Overall, with a few minor things, this place is a great place for a family to snorkel, explore with all the amenities of home. Aloha and Mahalo! |

We were two couples and one child so we had our pick of bedrooms. I couldn't get used to sheer curtains in the bathroom that overlooked the street, so we put towels up. The tide pools are a 5 minute walk away but plan to stay there all day they are so fun. Good info at the house regarding local shops/gas/sights, but beware of old guide books. Plan to be flexible. The kitchen had everything we needed. The tide pond in the back of the house was okay, we enjoyed swimming in it the 1st day, but overshadowed by the actual tide pools. We'd be happy to return especially if there were real curtains. |

Little things like having loaner masks and snorkels made things fun for kids and adults alike. It was very quiet. In the evening I loved the sound of the crickets, frogs and geekos and tropical breeze rustling in the trees. The beds were very comfortable. Typically I am a light sleeper but here I slept like a baby. I highly recommend this beautiful home if you are looking to be close to nature and for a truly relaxing environment. You are close to beautiful beaches, the ocean, and tide pools. Pahoa is the closest town with some great restaurants. It is about a 15 minute drive and from Kapoho to Pahoa it is just a nice tropical drive. Lovely! |

The teflon pans need to be replaced. We did enjoy our short stay and realize that its hard to keep a rental in top condition. The foliage was spectacular and provided privacy from the adjoining neighbors. The fish in the tide pool were not colorful but it was nice taking a dip in the private tide pool. Stayed for 5 days in April, 2011 We were pretty disappointed. 1) Living spaces are very small, seating is uncomfortable and while the house sleeps 8, you can't sit 8 to socialize.2) only dining room is outdoor on the lanai, with screens that gap at the frames, so bugs get in. Only seats 6.3) No a/c in the bedrooms to improve humidity, thus windows left open to the bugs and other critters at night .. plus the rain. Looks like the wood floors are being damaged from others doing the same and water getting inside.4) description reads like the lagoon outside is a combo swimming pool/snorkeling pool, when it's more of a bug factory. 5) Had to purchase things like trash bags and paper towels. It's not as well stocked as a vacation rental should be, we were constantly improvising on kitchen items. |

5 Star Rating for a Beautiful, Quiet, Vacation Rental on the Big Island Brooke H. from Kirkland, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in January, 2011 We really enjoyed this rental house and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Hawaii. We also stayed on Maui and Oahu and the entire group voted this rental the best. We had a group of 6 adults and this home was very accomodating for everyone. The house was very spacious, especially because the bedrooms had private lanai's and bathrooms. The rental was clean except it needed a little dusting. We arrived late at night and the house was easy to find. The kitchen was stocked with many condiments, much more than could have been expected! We spent most of our time just down the block (a short walk) at the large tide pools. We also explored the nearby attractions like the black sand beach, lava tree park, warming pools, champagne pools, and of course the volcano and national park. We also spent a day in Hilo visiting beautiful waterfalls and the farmers market, which was a great place to buy some gifts. We really enjoyed this house, we only wish we could have stayed longer! |

The pond for Orchid Elua was very small and shaded - more a dip than a swim. That said the ocean tidepools were only 5 minutes away and we swam there all the time!Property management was great - our first choice rental pulled the property from the market after our booking and they were great finding this one for us. Loads of stuff already in the house (washing liquid, dishwash liquid, condiments etc) wish we had known this before we got there as we shopped first.No noise problems from dogs, chickens or people - unlike the other reviewers noted. |

Close to great snorkeling, remote.I wish we had been warned that they were building a house right next door. We were looking forward to some peace and quiet, and we got hammers, sawing, loud music, and the sound of a generator. Every day. We have a 10 month old, so we weren't planning to go on many excursions, but the noise forced us to leave the area. A shame, really. |

However there is a rooster that lives in the yard of the house next door that crows much of the night and will not allow anyone to sleep. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2009 We enjoyed our stay at the Orchid Elua. The house was very accomidating and we appreciated the fact that each spacious bedroom had its own private bathroom. The location was great. We enjoyed the tide pools just outside our back door. The tide pools came alive at night with the sounds of crickets, frogs, gecko's and 1 rooster. We diffinitely reccomend Holiday Vaction rentals for your dream vacation. |

Recent Stay Jonathan F. from Atlanta, GA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2009 The place was very nice. Your agency was very helpful. I don't think I may reccomend this house to anyone for one major reason. The next door neighbors have a rooster that likes to crow at about 3:30AM (and again a 6AM). This is a BIG problem for people who chose a quiet out of the way location to stay and relax. Apparently there is some sort of noise ordinace alluded to in the guest book but I guess it does not apply to animals. I guess there may no be much the owner can do. It's ashame really. Aside from this issue the propoety is very nice and as long a folks realize they are staying in a bit of a distant location (This is what we wanted) it's great. |
