Could be great
A guest from Billings, MT does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 6 days in June, 2014
Upon entering the space, my first thought was, this isn't bad. It wasn't until I started looking closer that I was disappointed. The linens were all very old and worn out. Our pillows on the Murphy bed were literally 1 inch thick. There was no soap for the washing machine. We didn't use the kitchen appliances, but I would have needed to wash anything we used before use. Overall, a few simple upgrades and this could be very comfortable for a couple.

No upgrades in years
A guest from Port Charlotte, FL does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 7 days in June, 2014
This unit took me back some 20 years to lake cottages that had limited maintenance done, that seemed dirty even after being cleaned, that had closet doors that barely worked, that had original kitchen cupboards, plumbing and fixtures seemed original, screens that were torn, Not something that I would ever again spend money on to stay, especially during a trip to Maui.

Small but convenient
Katherine S. from Redondo Beach, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 6 days in December, 2013
The unit was smaller than I was expecting, but was OK. It could use a deep cleaning. Not to say that it was filthy, but we had to wash the pots, especially the lids, before using. The area behind the sink was dirty and the cabinet and drawer interiors weren't as clean as they should have been. The worst part was the pull out couch. It was extremely uncomfortable as the springs were almost completely poking out. There were 2 foam pads on the murphy bed, so I took those out and used them on the couch. It helped, but wasn't great. Other than that, the place was very quiet, except for the daily gardeners with the blowers and the trucks beeping every morning.

This was my 2nd stay in D516 and I love it. The condo has everything needed for a great vacation. The kitchen is a little tired, but everything works, & it's well stocked. The view from the balcony is stupendous and allows for great viewing of sunrise & sunset. This is the best value going on Maui if you want a simple, well-situated, well-stocked place for a holiday. I can't wait for my 3rd visit.

Very Comfortable Condo in an Excellent Location
A guest from San Francisco, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 4 days in December, 2013
The studio is in an excellent location with views of Haleakala and the beach from the lanai. The beach directly opposite from the Kihei Akahi complex is excellent for swimming and snorkelling. The condo itself is very well provided with beach equipment and basic kitchen necessities. We highly recommend this studio for couples looking to find comfortable accommodation close to lots of food options in Kihei

Evonne and Darren W. from Emeryville, CA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 4 days in July, 2013
We lived on Maui for 5.5 years until we moved back to the Bay Area in 2012. We actually still have a house in Wailuku that we rent out to long term tenants, and since we had to fly back to the island to photograph a wedding on the South side, we thought it would be nice to stay at a condo in Kihei. We paid $70/night for 4 nights, $85 cleaning fee and $35 for damage waiver. For that price, we knew we shouldn't expect much, but the FREE WiFi didn't work at all during our entire stay. The closet door was all messed up. The air vent didn't work in the bathroom, and therefore the shower liner was all moldy. It was gross. The toaster in the kitchen also wasn't working. We didn't check the other appliances as we didn't cook at the condo. And since the unit didn't have an air conditioner, there was a ceiling fan and the floor fan. The floor fan made noises all night every night, and my husband couldn't sleep because of it. Although it seems like the owner applied a new coat of paint, everything else in the condo (drapes, couch, murphy bed, linens...etc.) were very grungy. We will never stay at this condo again!

Arrival: Was a late night check in 11:00pm - Shuttle Service left me at the office as a drop off point. Office closed call the emergency # - Barrie was excellent! she called security for me only because I had extra luggage and Building D was the furthest building complex. - This may have been helpful if this was noted in the info. Thank you Barrie and thanks to the security staff for the rideGreat View from the Balcony - no Beach view. But Great Sun action as I was up at 5:30am every day having my coffee.Would like to see a better patio set.Kitchen: Coffee/small cups needs to be replaced very stained. Kitchen should go through a Reno / Cabinets are out dated / kitchen sink stopper brokenNo baking sheets - or skillets to Cook on the BBQ - hence by the sea wanted to cook a lot of sea foodDouble Closet/Storage; Get new Chairs for the beach, Another umbrella, the small blue&white cooler is broken - all these items should be inspected after each stay so the next person can enjoy. Better hangers and more than 12.Snorkel supplies should be cleaned and sanitized and put in a container clearly marked clean and ready to use! No Safe in the ClosetBathroom:Needs to be Renovated - Tub is well worn. Please buy New Towels Wall Bed: Ok not the greatest! Can maybe get away with A New Queen Bed - better linen Get rid of the 3 drawer dresser - Chest Drawer 5 or 6 drawer.Bed / living room: Long 4 ft table Wrong for the room - get rid of art work! Couch good - coffee re tan table good - TV / Stand - Get rid of outdated Alarm clock - does not work!Windows - to right of patio bottom section does not work - again ALL these issues should be inspected Prior to and after a departureNo Dinning tablePool and grounds were clean -BBQ's every night and and lunches.Overall I spent most of time at the beach and poolside - and Balcony If I was to return I would select Building A and the Condo wou

Perfect location in Kihei
A guest from Port Coquitlam, BC recommends this property.
Stayed for 11 days in April, 2013
Right across from the beach and next to good restaurants- couldn't ask for a better location. The apartment had a good view of the mountains and ocean. We spent a great deal of time on the lanai for breakfast and drinks in the evening. The apartment was clean and well stocked. The owner even supplied beach chairs, umbrella and snorkells(although we took our own). Good book selection too. The bathroom and kitchen cabinets are a little old and could be doing with a renovation but you get what you pay for. The cooker and fridge looked reasonably new and worked well. The stove is gas and can get pretty hot- so be carefull if you have kids. The pools were a little small but we didn't care as we were at the beach most of the time. Overall we had a great time and would recommend the apartment.

Stayed for 6 days in April, 2013
The studio was very well kept, an excellent location, and very quiet at night. The owner's contact person, Barrie, was exceptionally nice and very helpful, however the office person at the condo complex was anything but. Most prominent example: on my harried departure day, I went to the office to ask if he might be able to assist me and print out my boarding pass (I would even have been willing to pay a small fee for the convenience.) Instead of being helpful, or even politely explaining that he couldn't assist, he grunted at me "no, that I cannot do" and turned away.By contrast, Barrie (the condo owners island contact) insisted on printing out the passes for me and dropping them off before I left.A small thing, perhaps. But on a harried travel day, it's the small things that matter. That said, it is a very nice condo and an exceptionally nice location--I have no regrets about my choice.

The unit was dated, and needs a little sprucing up. Curtains are sun rotten and falling apart. Kitchen cabs are dated. DVD player hangs up several times while watching movie. It's a cozy and comfortable place for two people to stay, and overall we had a good time in Maui. We really don't go to just sit in a condo. We love to get out and see the island! It would also be nice if Kihei Akahi had some provisions to help out with a computer and printer so a guy could get boarding passes in prep to fly out.

First time in studio unit, definitely tight for space and made one bedroom units look spacious. I could not find beach towels. I called and rapidly two were delivered to unit. Later i found them on highest shelf and very faded so did not recognize as towels at first. Unit adequate for sleeping, but would have been hard to fix and eat meals. Luckily relatives were in a one BR and that is where we cooked and ate meals. Also a very broken umbrella was in the closet but unusable. is that something that should be provided. ??Office person and secutity guard of complex helpful and nice.

This was my first vacation I've ever been on. I surprised my girlfriend with a vacation to Maui as she's been 3 times before and is in love with the island. I now agree with every sentiment she's felt about the island, especially the condo we had. The view does not get justice from the pictures on the website. Waking up on the pullout and looking out over the ocean is amazing. Likewise eating meals on the lanai and staring at either the mountain or the ocean is terrific. Loved the place, has everything you need and more. Recommend sleeping on the pullout with the fan on for comfort during the heat. BEWARE THE BIRDS THOUGH my god are they determined to wake you up as soon as the suns up! Cheers - Cody and Roxy Coquitlam, BC

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at Kihei Akahi D-516. It was very clean and cute. It is quite small, but it's much bigger than a hotel room and it's perfect for two people. It had a great view of the sunrise, unfortunately you couldn't see the sunset but it was a three minute walk to the beach to see it. What we really loved about it was how well equipped it was. It was stocked with books, snorkel equipment, boogie boards, beach chairs, coolers, etc! That was really great for us when we were going on outings to be able to bring the gear along and not have to rent. We would definitely recommend checking out some of the great food right next door - Fred's Mexican Cafe, Moose McGillicuddy's, and the 808 Deli were really great for food and drink, and reasonably priced. Overall we had a great time in Maui and we could recommend this condo for others. We especially enjoyed eating dinner on the balcony with a drink and playing cards - perfect relaxing vacation!

Kehei was warm, sunny, and a pleasant break. The management company was professional to work with. The propery was well situated in the heart of Kehei's main tourist strip. The only negatives were: The bathroom smelled like someone had thrown up on the floor. I put the throw rugs in the wash for a double run and that seem to take care of it. Some of the amenities in the room were warn and needed updating: the "mattress" was not one, the couch well used.

A guest from Folsom, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in March, 2012
Overall the condo was not in the kind of condition that I am used to at Kihei Akahi. Though it was certainly a good location and had what I needed it could use some updating. I had to clean the tub when I got there as it was dirty with stuff that came right off with a little comet and a sponge so maybe it just got overlooked. I called the person "on the island "to report a couple of little things - the battery to the smoke alarm went out the first or second nite I was there, and the drain in the bathroom sink was sluggish, and the door difficult to lock with the key due to the door knob being loose (had to lock from inside = with difficulty as well- and slam shut), and didn't ever get a return call from her after I left a message so the problems were still there when I left and I left a note. I did drop the ball in her court expecting a return call and maybe would have been better just to try again calling her.

Time spent in paradise is always spectacular and so relaxing. Would I do another long stay in Maui? In a heart beat. I can't ever remember being this relaxed in my life. The only negative things I would have to say is I find the island getting too busy and quite noisy but I guess that is to be expected anywhere in a very overcrowded world. That is so unfortunate. But on the up side it is still a wonderful place to spend time. Mahalo and aloha. John

I had a great experience at Kihei Akahi. D516 is small, but cozy for 1-2 people. The balcony is amazing with a full view of Haleakala and the ocean. We were able to watch both the sun rise from behind Haleakala in the morning and the sun set in the evening - you can't ask for a better view than that! The condo is set away from the road so you don't hear the noise, which was great. It's right across the street from fantastic Kamaole Beach II & really convenient to enjoy the Wailea & Kihei areas either by car or on foot. This is a great value condo that I look forward to renting again sometime.

The overall cleanliness was ok and the gal who does the cleaning did a great job but you can only do so much in the time allowed. On that note it was suggested we tip the cleaning staff but I felt that this was not necessary as we paid $85.00 for this service. We left the suite in exceptional shape and everything was immaculate. The bedding was washed and folded, floors mopped, dishes done, bathroom disinfected and trash removed. I even removed some stains on the carpet and washed the hood fan above the stove and the bath mats. Our overall experience was great and if I ever come back to Maui I will definitely contact your agency and attempt to rent D-516 again. The mountain and water views were breath taking. Thank you so much.Louise Carachelo and Norm Davis

While we had a great time on our trip, we were a little surprised to discover what we had actually rented. The photos made the spaces appear a bit larger than they really were and the ocean view was not worth the extra money. A garden view would probably have been better..especially since this unit is right next to the property driveway. We were also disappointed to find that the air does not flow through the condo that well, because there are not levelours above the bed, as in the one-bedroom units at this property (and with no A/C, the nights were too warm....especially since the floor fan in the room started making a terrible noise and had to be turned off). The scum around the bathroom faucets was definitely a turn-off,too. Add to that the constant and extreme change in water temperature while showering and it made the bathroom an un-fun place to be. Another much-needed feature is light-blocking curtains. The white curtains made the place look cheery, but waking up at 5:00 am Hawaii Time was not a pleasant thing. The murphy bed was comfortable enough, but the hide-a-bed was not.On an up note, we really appreciated the beach chairs, umbrellas, and cooler that were in the closet. All in all, the place only needs a few minor improvements and perhaps a new house-keeping service. The property is nice and the office staff friendly. The best beach is right across the street and has street parking every morning....go get coffee and then park on the road, so the beach stuff can just stay in the car each day!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We feel that the honest impressions of guests are the best way for the public to understand what they are getting. We will address the issues you mentioned including a new fan, window treatments and perhaps photos that better show the size (though the square footage is displayed on our website). This is our most budget condo in Kihei and the owner takes great pride in it and upgrades it every year. Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management

We have traveled all over the world usually on a sailboat or doing a home exchange. This was our first time in Maui, we are living in Oahu for the winter and came to see it. We knew we would never be in the apt. except for b'fast and to sleep so I was looking for a nice value. I would highly recommend this unit. It was very well equipped, and beautifully decorated. We loved the lanai for breakfast and watching the sun rise over the volcano and the bonus view of the sea. Location was excellent. Our reservation was handled so professionally. If we have time to return to Maui in the future, this would be our choice.

Shabbly Condo
A guest from Imperial Beach, CA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 7 days in February, 2011
The condo was old, shabby. The extra sofa bed was unsleepable. It was dirty and really nothing more then a very old foam dog bed. The kitchen had very little basic stuff. I would have killed for one sharp knife that could cut a pineapple. I've stayed at condos where people who have stayed there leave foil, plastic wrap, etc, you know those little things that come in handy. But this place was picked clean of anything like that. There were coffee filters, small dish soap bottle and 2 bars of soap. It did have boogie boards, beach chairs, those type of things.

This condo is our smallest and most economical Maui unit. We are grateful for your feedback and will work with the owner to re-stock the kitchen with sharp knives and other essentials. Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management

Stayed for 7 days in December, 2010
The condo is a good size for two people who will be spending most of their time exploring. It would have been nice to have a dedicated bed rather than the foldout but it was comfortable enough. A/C would also be nice but what not necessary as the ocean breeze came in through the windows and the ceiling fan created nice air circulation. The sunsets from the balcony were picture perfect every night! I would definitely stay here again. No question.

We love Kihei and Kihei Akahi. This was the second time we stayed here and both experiences were wonderful. The location is the best! We can't say enough about how great Kihei Akahi is and we hope to be back here next year. Aloha

If I was to return with a friend I do not feel that I could stay here if 2 beds were needed. I tried sleeping on the hide a bed just because I wanted to be by the sliding glass door and under the fan. It was very uncomfortable. A futon in it's place would be better. The murphy bed was great. So I would say that this studio is great for a couple or a single. Don't expect to utilize the hide a bed as another bed but it is comfortable to sit on. I would stay here again if I came by myself like I did this time. I felt right a home. Nice quiet area, the pool was great and the beach and sunsets were great too. Within walking distance to so many restaurants and some shopping.

Stayed for 5 days in April, 2010
This was our first trip to Hawaii and it was wonderful! The condo was MUCH smaller than what we thought by looking at the pictures. For 2 people it was okay but definitely no more than that (even a little small for 2 people). The full-size murphy bed is comfortable but the hide-a-bed was so incredibly uncomfortable! I would suggest updating at least the mattress if not the whole couch. The only other complaint I have is the fridge. For heaven's sake REPLACE IT! A used refrigerator isn't terribly expensive and this place needs it desperately. Overall the condo is a decent place for 2 people to stay, close to the beach and good restaurants. It needs some updating but served as a decent place to stay and very good price!

We always appreciate constructive feedback, and for future renters, the renter was right and the refrigerator is being replaced this week! We happen to believe NO sofabed is comfortable, but we are sorry they felt it might have hindered their first stay in Hawaii. Again, for future renters; the studios are just under 500 sq ft. Larger than most hotel rooms. Like she said, you can't beat the price.

The drive to Hana was spectacular and we had a great evening in Paia afterwards. We really appreciated the CD driving guide provided. Unfortunately, we forgot it in our rental car. We apologize about that. The only complaints are with the fridge and stove. Both needed some maintenance since a knob kept falling off of the gas stove, and the fridge is quite old.

Unit very 'long in the tooth'
Terry O. from Woodway, WA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 7 days in February, 2010
The unit badly needs updating and refurbishing. It doesn't look to have been touched since it was built 30 years ago. We had lots of trouble with the toilet - glad there was a plunger there! We did like the location of the unit and view, and the unit was clean although the shower grout and mat was moldy. The kitchen and bathroom sink area badly needs new cabinets, fixtures and counter tops. A coat of paint would also help. If the owner would spend some bucks, it wouldn't be hard to update his unit. The Murphy bed was marginally OK, but a good queen-size bed instead would be a real improvement - there's plenty of room for it if the Murphy bed was removed. Wish I could be more complimentary, but we were glad we didn't have to spend much time in the unit.

D519 is in need of upgrading and air conditioning. Also, the couch is stained and needs cleaning. Not enough room to put our own things as the owner has too much clutter in kitchen cabinets and living area. I stayed in an upgraded studio down the hall and it was so much more pleasant. In general, Kihei Akahi is a great place to stay. Right across from a lovely beach. Nice people. Walk to beautiful snorkling, places to eat. Bus stop is convenient and service easy to use.

Lovely little studio apartment. Very close to the ocean, about a 3 minute walk. Was under the impression it had a BBQ. Turned out the complex has BBQ's by the pool. Perfect place to stay for an active couple. If you were planning on spending a lot of time in your apartment its probably to small. My girlfriend found the bed too soft. Don't take these as too negative though. Its a great little beach apartment. In a relaxed and friendly area.

Long black hairs were found in the bathroom, on the countertop and a mass of hair in the dryer. Mouse droppings were on top of the refrigerator. The first day we arrived we contacted the property owner about a broken screen and the sliding glass door not having a lock. No action was taken the entire week. There was not an adequate fan in the sleeping area. The high setting put out the amount of air of an average low setting you would find on most fans.

Property Manager Response:

We're a little confused because as the management company, we do not have any record of a call from these guests; and we checked also with the owner. We also checked the screen and sliding glass door and both seem to be in good working order with no broken screen. We are very sorry if the guests were not happy but we would have tried to correct the situation had we been called.

The Price Is Right
A guest from Dallas, TX recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in July, 2009
We would not complain at all about the price. It is located in the very back of the complex, which is a beautiful property with flowering hibiscus, plumeria, bird of paradise, all sorts of other flowering trees and shrubs, it's fantastic! The two pools are small, but nice. The location of the condo itself is the reason there's a "five minute walk to the beach" (Kama'ole Beach II, not a bad one at all). The view from the "lanai" (I call it a small balcony)of the mountain is nice and the distant view of the beach beyond the other condos is good too, but what is up with that empty yellowing field in the back? Also...The one bed is somewhat hard and the sofa bed is extra worn and lumpy. The linens were worn. The kitchen is worn, but we did enjoy having it, although without an A/C it really is too hot to use the oven or stove. The "high speed" internet never got a connection above low, and I couldn't do much on my laptop except check a few websites, even e-mail was slow or dropped. The overall room space isn't utilized well. It's too small for a sofa table, "coffee table" and the big lamps. Use wall space for sconces, shelves with doors, etc.It was really too small for 3 adults, but they did warn us, quite politely, I might add. It is a distance from Lahaina (20 miles), where all the parasailing, cruises, luaus and many other activities are located, but that was fine with us. We enjoyed our stay, and like the Kihei area with its mix of locals and tourists very much. The condo is very cozy.

We rented two condos, 516 and 603. 516 was a studio and the ONLY bad thing to say is it didn't have a dishwasher. 603 was a one bedroom, with a pull-out bed in the living room. I actually preferred the pull-out as you received a great cross breeze..bedroom was a little warm for me. These condos were a 5 minute walk to the beach, 15 min. walk to the Abc store, health food store, and Denny's restaurant. 10 min. drive to Big (McKenna) beach, best boogie boarding beach in Maui. HUGE waves, not for wimps. (=

There are only 3 wash cloths which is insufficient. It means laundry has to be done more frequently than necessary. The broom is quite small (5"wide) so it takes a long time to sweep the apartment. A larger broom would be very useful. The cable was coiled up in a drawer, it would be helpful if there was a small note near the hookup directions for the computer letting the guest know its location. Or leave it hooked up to the box & have it hang behind the TV set.Everything was so clean, attractive, neat and provided me with a very comfortable set of rooms. Thanks for your efforts. I will return some day and would use the same condo without reservation. Thanks for making my visit pleasant.Carol

This unit advertised to accomodate 3 with a double murphy bed and a double sleeper sofa. We were 2 adult sisters sharing the unit and are regular visitors to Maui. The murphy bed was quite comfortable but the sofa should not be used even with the skinny foamies provided. Only 1 blanket was supplied and no other covers for the cool nights. The dials on the kitchen stove are not legible making it a hazard to operate even when you are used to gas stoves as we are. The range hood was disgustingly dirty as were the exhaust fans in the bathroom (that did not operate). The inside eating table top is broken from its legs. We felt uncomfortable with the condition of the kitchen amenities (toaster, cups, glasses) but there is no doubt the view from the lanai is spectacular day and night. The studio space is quite adequate with nice floors and bathroom but we think that most vacationeers would not find this unit to be a pleasant place to stay due to its general condition. We toured some other studios in the complex and found a much better quality and the same price point. We would not recommend this unit but absolutely do recommend Hawaii Holiday Vacations and the Kihei Akahi!
