Elegant 6Br home- on seaside hill, tropical garden, views, infiniti pool, etc
CCOLIN - You will be mesmerized by the magnificent views from every room of this Mediterranean-style oasis reminiscent of an Italian hill town. This elegant compound, designed by a prominent Manhattan architect, consists of four clustered buildings and an infinity pool situated in a luxurious tropical garden. Enjoy the sunset over Tamarindo Bay from the shaded outdoor living room and al fresco dining under the pergola with adjoining spacious grilling area. Surrounding the pool on the terrace level below, sun and shade lounging is afforded in the jasmine-scented garden that is surrounding the pool (with underwater benches) is flanked by the lounge chairs of a jasmine-scented garden and a separate bougainvillea-covered palapa. Underwater benches in the pool offer a particularly appealing viewpoint.
The vaulted-ceilinged indoor living room, furnished in an eclectic style integrating elegant art and antiques with a comfortable upholstered sofa and armchairs, enjoys the same sweeping view as the indoor dining room, which is adjoined by a spacious state-of-the art kitchen appointed with Brazilian marble countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a gas oven with six burners.
You can hear the surf from each of the ocean-view bedrooms. The luxurious master bedroom, with Juliet balcony, king-sized bed and flat screen TV, adjoins a large master bath where the strata-tiled shower overlooks the ocean view. A spacious dressing area leads to a sixth bedroom/study with views of Playa Tamarindo and Playa Langosta. The lower level of the main house consists of a second living room (with flat scene TV), two bedrooms (one with a queen-sized bed and chaise lounge, one with a double bed), a large bath with glass enclosed shower. All rooms are appointed with Travertine floors and Guanacaste hardwood doors and are fully air conditioned.
Wake to birdsong. So far we have counted over ninety species from the terrace. Check the surf. A family of monkeys often grazes in the trees across the road from the house and whales are sometimes sighted passing the point below. Our caretakers, Andy and Cynthia, who live in an apartment over the garage at the entrance of the property, are a great resource for local information, provide concierge services upon request, and ensure the security of the property.

Best view in Tamarindo, Booking again next year
Sarah S. from Lake Forest, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in April, 2016 The best feature after the view is the infinity pool, which was the perfect temperature. We were a group of 12, mostly active senior couples, from NY, CA , SC and London, getting together to enjoy a vacation in a beautiful spot. We all enjoyed the 2-hr trip up the estuary viewing crocs, howler monkeys, many species of bird and sea creatures. The layout of the house affords exceptional privacy, high-end details and furnishings, and very helpful caretakers who took care of our every need and question. Tennis was walking distance with excellent facilities. Favorite restaurant was Nogie's on the beachfront; incredibly fresh seafood, good service, moderate prices, great view - ate there three times!
Property Manager Response: Response from Tropical Vacations Sarah - we're so happy you had a great stay at the lovely Colina del Mar! It is such a beautiful home! Hope to have you back again in the future.
Catherine L. from New York, NY does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2015 located at the top of a mountain made it very difficult to be spontaneous. Taxis were $12 just to go up or down the mountain, $20 to get to town. The kitchen was poorly equipped, not a salt and pepper shaker to be found, no paper towels or paper plates. While the views and pool were absolutely spectacular. The interior was a bit shabby and needed some updating. while it is not unusual to run out of water our caretakers recommended that we bring in extra water for ourselves. Since we were on top of a mountain it would have been more appropriate for them to use their vehicle to bring more water to the residence. I would not recommend staying here.
Property Manager Response: Response from Tropical Vacations Hi Catherine - I'm sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your stay. Yes, Colina del Mar is up a very steep hill. We usually recommend guests have a car for this reason, but taxis are available. I'm surprised at the rate they charged you, however. Many people choose this house because of the views and in spite of the road/hill. It is a beautiful, tranquil spot and that is worth a lot to many people. But it is not for everyone - especially for people who want to be able to spontaneously walk into town, etc.
I will check on the kitchen - we do not supply paper plates for guests, but there should be paper towels.
Please let me know what you feel needs to be updated in the house and we can pass it on to the owners. They do a lot of work to maintain the property and are very open to specific feedback.
We do have water issues from time to time in Tamarindo, but I will check with the caretakers about having water brought in for guests when there is an issue. This is a great suggestion.
We hope you return to Tamarindo and perhaps stay in a place closer to town.
Christine S. from New York, NY recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2013 This was our second stay at the home and we will be back again for a third stay! We love everything about this Colina del Mar.
A guest from Kansas City, MO recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in February, 2013 We had a wonderful stay at Colina Del Mar. The pictures are a perfect representation of what you will get. The view is priceless, and the house is clean, up-to-date and spacious. We had a group of 5 couples in our late 20s and it was perfect. It was quite a walk up/down hill to town, but we were told this prior to booking. We walked down almost every day, but usually paid $5-10 for a cab up - well worth it! We would definitely recommend this house!
Property Manager Response: Response from Tropical Vacations Thanks for the review. Glad you had a great time. Come back again!
Marcus M. from Littleton, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2013 Too short! All eight of us had a fantastic time. The home more than we could have expected. Andy and Cynthia did a great job!
Sharon G. from Dobson, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in June, 2012 Caretakers are a font of info to be used. Most helpful and friendly. House has a spectacular view; it's a rough ride up to the house, but an adventure!
Jan V. from Richmond, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2012 House certainly exceeded our expectations, even though the pictures already looked great.Great pool, outdoor sitting areas, large bed rooms, good general inside areas. Great view from most rooms. Plenty of space.in short fantastic
Ryan C. from phoenix, arizona recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2011 Had a bachelor party with 8 dudes at Colina Del Mar. It was the perfect spot. The view was amazing and the house was perfect. I was a bit worried that the caretakers, Cynthia and Andy would act more as babysitters and yell at us for being loud, but they were so cool. It was really nice to have them there for added security and also local knowledge. The walk up the hill to get there can be a bit rough but any cab in town will take you up there for $5-10. I will go back and stay at this place everytime I visit Costa Rica!

Andy W. from Broadbeach Waters, Queensland recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2011 The house was amazing! The caretakers, Andy & Cynthia, were great. Highly recommend the catered breakfasts, Bathsheba is fantastic!
Todd N. from Creve Coeur, MO recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2010 The view from Casa Colina del Mar alone is worth the stay. You can hear the ocean below and you become mesmerized by the sight and sound. The pool and pool area are designed to maximize these features. The house is well appointed and comfortable. Having looked around while we were in Tamarindo, I would say that this is the pick home of the area and there are lots to nice homes.
John C. from Stafford, Virginia recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2010 My family and I recently stayed in Casa Colina del Mar. We had a wonderful and relaxing time. The onsite property caretakers are wonderful, caring and responsive people. My family and I spent hours in and around the property's amazing pool. Never have we enjoyed a more wonderful view and beautiful rental vacation home. The lovely home and fantastic caretakers are reason enough to return again and again. We felt at home and with family.
