THIS VACATION RENTAL IS IN KEAUKAHA, the part of Hilo where the beach parks are located. It's a perfect location for a holiday stay or if you are in town for a temporary assignment. The condo is in the heart of a great recreational area but less than 10 minutes from downtown Hilo with shopping, entertainment, and restaurants.
THE 2-BEDROOM, 3RD-FLOOR Maunaloa Shores condo has a wonderful view of the lagoons out front and the ocean beyond. You can enjoy this view from your own private lanai (balcony), from the living area, and also from the large master bedroom. If you must work while visiting, the unit has a desk in the master bedroom with a telephone. High-speed Internet is also provided.
THE UNIT CAN SLEEP 4 COMFORTABLY with a queen bed and 2 twin beds. It is completely furnished and comes fully equipped with everything you need in the kitchen as well as a TV, DVD, and radio/CD. There is a coin-operated washer/dryer available just down the hall in the complex.
THE MAUNALOA SHORES CONDOMINIUM COMPLEX has a large swimming pool for guests and you have an assigned parking space. Next door to the complex is a popular park for picnics, swimming and snorkeling.
Year-round rate range is $85 - $175 per night, depending upon party size and dates of your visit. Monthly rate range is $1850 - $2100. Cleaning fee is $95

Stayed for 6 days in August, 2012 This is an older, and a bit tired resort, but so full of the spirit of Old Hawaii, and situated in such an amazingly beautiful location, that the lack of "new and fresh" can be overlooked fairly easily. Unit #306, is in a dynamite spot for optimal view, but could use some renovation. With improvements, it could be a top-notch rental! I do not think it is worth more than $90 per night. In fact, unless certain problems are corrected, price should be reduced further. For example, glass slider and screen door track in living room needs replacement. Bedroom windows are very difficult to open. Nicer, newer amenities need to be provided, such as a "real" ironing board, ventilation fan in the bathroom, dishwasher (or at least a dish drying rack), phone book, "how to" guide for TV, VCR, etc., and a CD player/radio for music. Also, tub area should be re-caulked with white caulking.Overall, we loved our stay, and were very happy with Jessica, and other Hawaii Holiday staff, including John, the delightful maintenance man!Mahalo, and a hui hou!PS: residents of Moanaloa Shores were friendly and helpful. Including Oton, care-taker, I believe.y |

Hit and Miss Condo A guest from Calgary, AB does not recommend this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2012 Maunaloa Shores is centrally located in Hilo on an incredibly beautiful ocean lagoon. Shopping, volcano, awesome snorkeling all within one hour. The condo itself is in dire need of general tlc, all the faucets leak, the cleanliness of the kitchen was not good, there were tiny bugs everywhere, the beds were the worst! We bought a foamie for the queen bed, and my husband had to rotate between sleeping on the couch and a hard twin bed.After vacuuming and wiping everything down, the bugs did seem to mostly disappear. The reservations and check in was great, no problems. Although the location of the condo was good, we wouldn't stay at this particular condo again due to general maintenance, cleanliness and bed issues. I am writing a long, honest review hoping it will be helpful to you. We did enjoy our stay overall. |

Maunaloa Shores 306 A guest from Downers Grove, IL does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2012 The properties location was great. Unfortunately the condo needs work and has been this way for a couple of years as noted by comments of other people in previous years. (ripped curtains, sliding doors bent and don't work properly, sliding screen worhtless) The kitchen worked okay except for tiny ants. Any little crumb brought them out. I would go back to Maunaloa Shores but never 306. The property management should consider not renting this unit until it is brought up to a decent standard. The rather shabby appearance of the building took a bit of acclimation. The beds were not good. The drapes in the bedroom were ripped. The screen door to the balcony was holed and off the runner. My trip was not for fun, as my dad was at Hilo Medical Center following a catastrophic stroke. The condo was a peaceful and comfortable haven during a very difficult time. I was soothed to sleep by the sound of the waves and coqui.My only suggestion would be to replace the carpet with tile (the carpet is the reason the unit's general condition only rated 3 stars). Carpet in a tropical climate isn't necessary and almost always smells musty (though I must admit that I am not a big fan of carpet in any climate!).Thank you for a peaceful stay during a difficult time. |

The ocean and tidepool shows through a thick jungle foliage than backs up to the property. The pool was warmer and larger than we expected. We spent hours hanging out there and getting to know the residents.The unit was clean and nicely furnished; there was even snorkel and beach gear in the guest closet. The pretty beach park next door had good swimming and snorkeling in the large tide pools and the local beachgoers were friendly.The location was a bit off the beaten path, about 5 minutes from town, with some industrial areas and less desirable beaches down the road, but we had no problems doing the short drive every day. Our master bedroom had the same great view as the living room and we slept well at night, seneraded by the sounds of the ocean and the frogs that inhabit the jungle. We had a great stay and love the sleepier, rainforest environs of Hilo and the nearby Puna coast. We hope to come back again. |

We love its multi culture and visiting events at the U of H. Being close to the ocean is a must for whale watching. Condo 306 is in need of new beds and remodeling of bathroom and kitchen to enjoy it more. Management is helpful and kind and quick to answer our needs. |

Stayed for 30 days in November, 2008 Lovely place to stay - great swim hole, lovely condo, excellent service overall. Sharene and Su take calls and give advice at all hours and are real pros! Only flaw was the cleaning service - in 2 mths, they never showed up despite 3 phone discussions. |

Martine's working stay at Mauna Loa Martine W. from Honolulu, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 30 days in October, 2008 I never did receive a cleaning, tho I was contacted 3 times to set it up, and even suggested a week while I would be out of town. Also, the kitchen floor had not been washed when I moved in - very sticky and grimy...But the rest of the apt was clean and the repairs I requested were done in a timely manner.I highly recommend bug traps for cockroaches, and a trash can with a lid that closes tight - to avoid feeding cockroaches in the kitchen.Also recommend stocking basics like olive oil, vinegar, salt & pepper, mayo, mustard, as these are basics that folks need. |
