Magical Cottage in Idyllic Urban Phinney Ridge - Your Home Away From Home!
Discover this adorable 1+ bedroom single family cottage in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle, courtesy of Sea to Sky Rentals. Enjoy sitting out on the front porch or take in the local sites. The #5 bus picks up 1 block away and will have you downtown in a matter of minutes. Within 5 blocks are some of the best restaurants Seattle has to offer, as well as numerous boutique stores, grocery store, and coffee shops (of course!). If you aren't familiar with the neighborhood, you will not be disappointed to discover it. The Woodland Park Zoo is a manageable 15 block walk or a quick hop on and off the #5 bus.
The home features a queen size bed in one bedroom and an uncommonly comfortable queen size sleeper sofa in the living room. The upscale sleeper sofa has no bars to wreck a good night's sleep and a very thick foam mattress for the ultimate in comfort. The 2nd sleeping area features two twins with skylights and low ceiling height which makes it ideal for kids but a bit tight for adults which is why we have a maximum of 6 people, only 4 of whom can be adults. Eat in kitchen and a separate office space with a wireless capable DSL modem. Bathroom features a clawfoot bathtub. Fantastic, charming home base for your Seattle vacation!
***A security deposit IS required and guests have the option of a refundable out-of-pocket damage deposit of $1500 (1br or smaller)/ $3000 (2br or larger) or a non-refundable insurance policy purchase of $34 (1br or smaller)/ $49 (2br or larger) to be confirmed when called.

Week stay in Phinney Ridge cottage
A guest from Washington, DC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2016 Funky old house with Seattle charm. Great location that worked out well for our family and our budget. The two beds in the attic are great if need extra space for little kids. And the sofa sleeper was quite comfortable. Sea to Sky made all the associated logistics very easy to deal with.
Elisa Y. from South Weber, UT recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2016 This was probably my favorite rental house so far. It has windows all over and bright happy colors. Everything was spotless when we arrived. The movies provided a fun change for the kids evenings when they were too pooped to adventure anymore. The box of toys was also a really nice touch. The bus stops half a block from the house every 15 minutes or so. The yard is lovely. My son and I spent an afternoon trading outside while the baby napped. Even though we are near the main road there wasn't and noise, even during the daytime. Additionally, we met some of the neighbors and they were very friendly. Suggesting ideas and telling us some of the history of the street. Our only concern was that the stairs to the loft are very steep and irregular. When you walk down, you are faced with the corner of the hallway. It wouldn't have been a problem, but I have a 3 year old and I was worried about him coming to find me in the dark. I ended up sleeping upstairs with him and we were very comfortable ??
Janet S. from Indianapolis, IN recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in May, 2016 Good! The house meet all of our needs! It was comfortable, clean and well maintained!
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hi Janet, thanks for choosing the Phinney Garden Cottage and taking the time to review your stay. It was great having you! Best, Sea to Sky Rentals
Yvonne S. from Lynchburg, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in April, 2016 I stayed here 5 nights in April 2016 with two sisters. The upstairs bedroom, as described, does indeed have a low ceiling as well as steep stairs but we used it anyway with no problems whatsoever. The home is nicely appointed in a friendly neighborhood with beautiful gardens everywhere. Coffee shops, groceries and other shops are all within walking distance, the bus to downtown within 2 minutes waking distance. The house has a covered front and back porch. Very quiet at night. I will definitely come back to this house if I visit Seattle again. The only suggestion I have is to improve the kitchen stock a bit; there are no sharp knives and pots and pans are so-so.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello Yvonne, we enjoyed having you as our guest! Many thanks for the kind words and detailed feedback. We'll pass it on to our property care team immediately. I love the Phinney neighborhood also and I'm happy to hear you found it to be so pleasant! Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
Daniel V. from Minot, ND recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in April, 2016 The only thing bad is the parking I had to park a block sometimes 2 blocks away should have a space just for the renters in front of the house. Also the recycle bin was full.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hi Daniel! Thanks for choosing Sea to Sky Rentals and the Phinney Garden Cottage. We find the free street parking is usually quite convenient but the neighborhood can get crowded on occasion. If you stay with us in the future, just give us a ring and we'll be happy to swing by and empty the recycle bin for you anytime! Cheers, Sea to Sky Rentals
A guest from Etna, WY recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2016 After staying 2 nights downtown, it was such a treat to come here for the remainder of our visit to Seattle (next time, we'll just skip downtown). It's a great neighborhood, and the house is walking distance to fun stores and restaurants. I love a house with character and this did not disappoint. It is exactly as described and I highly recommend it. 5 of stayed here with plenty of room, as long as you're ok sharing a bathroom; not a problem. Lots of extra blankets and pillows and the teenagers loved staying in the loft.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Sarah, thanks for staying at the Phinney Garden Cottage! We're so happy you enjoyed the character of the home as well as the fun & convenient location. I'm glad it accommodated everyone comfortably. You were a fantastic guest and we'd love to have you back to stay again! Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
Jeff D. from Dulles, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2016 The cottage was perfect ? nice and cozy on a rainy winter day. It was clean, well equipped, and comfortable, plus within a short walk of all the best places on Phinney Ridge.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello Jeff, thanks for being our guest and taking the time to review your stay at the Garden Cottage! We loved having you and hope you will return for your next visit to Seattle! Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
A guest from Salt Lake City, UT recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2015 The cottage is very clean and well decorated. The location can't be beat. We found the things in other reviews to be charming such as low ceiling in the upstairs and shower. Our grown son did just fine in the loft. We will definitely rent this place again!
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Dear Linda - We're so excited that you and your family enjoyed your time at the Phinney Garden Cottage! We are so looking forward to your return! Kindly, Sea to Sky Rentals
Darette V. from Las Vegas, NV recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in October, 2015 Everything was delightful with the exception of two items. The door locks had been jimmied and taken out or replaced on both front and rear door. It did not give me a secure feeling. There should be a TV instruction sheet so guests do not have to call for assistance. I would rent the unit again. Everything else was excellent.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello Darette - We're so thrilled you enjoyed staying in Phinney Garden Cottage! Thanks for taking the time to write us a review - I passed on your feedback to my property care team. We're looking forward to having you as guest again soon! Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
A guest from Salem, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2015 Wonderful property in a great location. There are lots of restaurants and food shops within walking distance. The bus to downtown is half a block away and it is an easy drive to downtown, Ballard, and U of W. The house itself is very nice and nicely outfitted. It is perhaps not suited for a tall family - the shower was low even for us and we top out at 5'7"! Sea to Sky was one of the most professional companies we've ever used.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Dear Elizabeth - Thanks for taking the time to write us such a kind review. It was a pleasure to host you at the Phinney Garden Cottage! We're glad to hear you explored the surrounding neighborhoods. Looking forward to hosting you again on your next visit to Seattle. Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
Nicholas H. from Calgary, AB recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2015 We stayed here is July 2015 when it was very hot. But the house cooled quite quickly when we opened all the windows and sky lights in the roof. The second floor is only suitable for children and the shower might be a problem for someone over 6'. Other than that it was a great place and quite convenient for downtown.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello Nicholas - We're so excited you found the Phinney Garden Cottage comfortable during your stay! Thanks for taking the time to write us a review - we'd love to have you back with us the next time you're in Seattle! Thanks, Sea to Sky Rentals
A guest from Rolling HIlls Estates, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2015 We had a great time at this little cottage :) It was lovely and charming! We could walk places and felt the location was great. The grounds could have used a little upkeep and there were a few things not in working order ( a window, set of blinds etc...but overall it was a delight.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hi Kristen - We are so glad you found the Garden Cottage comfortable for your stay! It sounds like you and your group were able to enjoy the best the Phinney Ridge neighborhood has to offer. Thank you for alerting us about attention the property needs - making sure each property is in prime condition is of extreme priority for us. We hope you'll stray with us next time you're in Seattle - returning guests receive 5% off any stay! Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
David M. from Boulder, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in June, 2015 We had a good experience staying in the house for 9 days. It was a little warm upstairs. The operations manual mentioned fans but we couldn't find them but we had our own small fan which worked just fine to cool it off in the evening. Everything else worked well and we were very happy with the house and the neighborhood.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello David, thanks for staying with us and leaving such a kind review! We're delighted you enjoyed the stay and we will ensure that any information regarding fans matches what is provided in the unit. We hope to have you back to stay again soon! Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
A guest from Redondo Beach, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in December, 2014 This place is absolutely darling, and very well located. Just about everything you might need is steps away. The property is cozy and comfy. I stayed with my small family and it was perfect for us. Our son is 7 and used the upstairs room, which really is suitable, as the write-up says, for kids. (The slope of the roof/ceiling means I bumped my head a couple times when I was up there, and I'm only 5 foot 4. Also, the stairs to the upstairs are steep, so at age 7 my son was perfect age and height to make full use of that room). We did have one slight maintenance issue (needed new light bulbs) and that was taken care of by maintenance crew within a few house that morning (first Saturday two days after Christmas, so I was pleasantly surprised). It's a really lovely place to stay, and I can only imagine it's even nicer during the summer months when the front porch and back garden can be made good use of.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello Elizabeth and thank you for choosing Sea to Sky Rentals for your Christmas Vacation! It was great having you as our guest. We are glad that you enjoyed the lovely Phinney Garden Cottage and that our property care team was responsive to your needs. Come back and stay again next time you are in Seattle, and remember, return guests get 5% off any stay! Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
Heidi S. from Fairfax, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in October, 2014 My husband, daughter and I stayed here for a week in late October. We were in the process of moving from N Virginia to Hawaii and wanted to stop and see family and friends. The cottage was the perfect place to stay for us. It's all about location, plus the charm of this house - we all felt right at home as soon as we walked in the door! Description of property was just as expected. We went to 74th st ale house, el chupacabra, herkimers coffee (most excellent!), etc, we went everywhere! Overall, we would stay here again and recommend it to others as well. Being from Seattle originally, it made us very homesick!
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello Heidi and thank you for choosing Sea to Sky Rentals! We appreciating you taking the time to review your stay and provide such valuable information for future guests. The Phinney Ridge neighborhood is so charming, and I'm delighted to hear you took advantage of the proximity of the Garden Cottage to all those shops and restaurants! We'd love to have you back next time you are in Seattle, and remember, return guests get 5% off any booking with us! Very best, Sea to Sky Rentals
A guest from Severna Park, Maryland recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2014 Excellent location and timing for us.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello Stephen and thank you for choosing Sea to Sky Rentals! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. A guest from Buford, GA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 11 days in June, 2014 Disappointed with the overall upkeep of the grounds and the home. It is in need of updates. The grassy area was filled with weeds, decorative fencing had fallen. While there is a grill I would not use on an old enclosed wooden deck (where it was located). Being that it has only one bathroom it is not going to easily if at all support four or more. There two beds in the attic but access is via a very steep stairwell with no banister - at best strictly a spot for kids 10+ in age
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello Leo and thank you for choosing Sea to Sky Rentals! It is true that one bathroom could be a stretch for 4 guests, depending on habits and preferences, which is why we are sure that every guest who books one of our rentals knows how many bathrooms will be available for their use. I am very sorry that the condition of the property landscaping did not meet your standards, but please rest assured that we take all feedback from our guests very seriously, and we view your input as an opportunity to improve our rentals for all the guests to come! That said, I'm so glad you found our management services and the location of the rental to be satisfactory. The Phinney Ridge neighborhood is just wonderful. Please don't hesitate to call or email us with any further feedback, as we truly appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your experience. Best, Sea to Sky Rentals.
A guest from Glendale, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2014 Great location and the upstairs loft bedroom was perfect for my 7 year old. Beautiful yard.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC I agree! The Phinney Garden Cottage is a perfect location, especially for families! And that loft is adorable, I am thrilled to hear you 7-year-old took advantage of the child-sized nook in the loft! We'd love to have you and your family back any time!
A guest from Boise, Idaho recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in April, 2014 This little cottage was perfect for my husband, our teenage daughter, and me. The décor was colorful and charming. The kitchen was well-supplied. Everything worked. The beds were comfortable. We loved the neighborhood. We especially liked Yanni's Greek Restaurant, about a two minute walk from the house. We loved being near Ken's Grocery, which is a small upscale store with everything we wanted from a good beer and wine selection, to a deli, to everyday items. The No. 5 bus has frequent service, every 15 minutes to downtown, and stops about one block from the house. The neighborhood felt very safe. When we were at home we often had the doors open and were sitting out on the front porch. The garden is quite lovely. The white clematis was in bloom when we arrived. It took my breath away. We had no trouble with parking. It was airy, pleasant, comfortable, and carefully provisioned. Both my husband and my daughter said that the Phinney Ridge Cottage was their favorite place we have stayed in Seattle. Thank you, SeatoSky!
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hi Phoebe! This review puts a giant smile on my face, I am so glad you got to enjoy such an amazing time in the Phinney Garden Cottage and that it truly felt like home to you. It is what we strive for, to make your rental experience feel as though you are coming home to a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. We'd love to have you stay with us again any time.
A guest from Nevada City, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2014 The cottage was very clean and cute and the location was great- right around the corner from coffee, food, and market and right down the street from the zoo and lake. The cottage worked great for our family of 4 but might be a squeeze for more than 2 adults. It has some quirky spaces (like the cute loft that my kids loved) that worked just fine for me (I'm 5'2") but my husband had to duck in the shower (6'5"). The people who I interacted with at the management company were all very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hi Shanti! We are so glad we were able to accommodate you and your family! I know what you mean, I'm 5'4" and had to duck in the nook upstairs but it really is a perfect place for the children. You and your family are welcome back any time, we would love to have you as guests again!
A guest from Southhampton, MA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in February, 2014 We are in Seattle several times a year and this comfortable and cozy Phinney cottage is our favorite location. Green Lake is close by for a great place to run and the there is close access to restaurants, the bus line, and the fun shops on Phinney Ridge. It is a perfect, central location and so easy to get to the rest of Seattle from here. It is a bonus to see both the Olympics and the Cascades several times each day.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC I agree! Seeing our beautiful mountains every day never fails to take my breath away! I am so glad you got to relax and enjoy yourself in the Phinney Cottage!
Great Spot, Gotta wonder about the rate and cleaning policy.....
A guest from Seattle, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in February, 2014 I needed a place to stay for a last minute business trip. I looked at this property online, saw that it was available and checked the rate. It appeared as $119 per night in two places on the website- general info and specifically for the season in which I was booking. When I called to reserve- the rate quotes was $198!! The rate was totally misrepresented online and when discussing with management, they acknowledged that they knew about the problem but had made no effort to correct. They offered a 5% discount which put a small dent in the difference and I had few options so I booked it because I was traveling last minute but given a choice I would have gone elsewhere because of the misrepresentation and managements attitude about it. Also, with a hefty $150 cleaning fee they still expect you to do a lot or be charged. The place was cute, the place was clean, everything worked- but the pricing policy was a burn.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Thank you for your feedback, we read all of our reviews and do our best to make the necessary changes to provide a better service. I apologize that our vendors' websites can be misleading however we have no control over their pricing engines, though I wish I could control them! Our housekeeping team are very thorough and work hard to provide you a clean sanitized rental when you check in, exceptional service is not inexpensive. We do not require you to take the trash out or the put the dishes in the dishwasher; we ask this as a courtesy. We are glad you were able to otherwise enjoy your time in the Phinney Garden Cottage. Please take 5% off your next reservation with us.
A guest from Severna Park, Maryland recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2013 Great. A couple items: Front electrical socket is very loose (to right facing door), a plastic plate fell off the wall in the study, found a pair of shorts upstairs... none of this detracted from a wonderful experience.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Hello. Thank you for reviewing our beautiful Phinney Garden Cottage . We do appreciate your feedback
Carey K. from Aridrie, AL recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in October, 2013 This was a great place to stay on a bus route. We got a City Pass and were able to get to most of the places on one bus with a short walk. There is a grocery store, window shopping, and coffee shops close by. The children enjoyed having their own space to play during our "down times". We had a little bit of trouble getting parking on the street.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Thank you for writing us a review! Your feedback on the bus route is extremely helpful to our future guests! The onstreet parking can be a little difficult there, I usually park no further than a block or two away. Next time you are in town think of us and we will offer you a 5% discount!
A guest from Bainbridge Island, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 12 days in September, 2013 This cute cottage was great for our family of three (and would also be a fine option for a family with two children). It is located in an appealing neighborhood, within easy walking distance to a variety of wonderful shops and restaurants. Though older, the cottage is well-stocked and comfortable, and the property management company is terrific - flexible and accommodating! Would recommend for families of 3 or 4.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Thank you for the great review! I am so happy that the cottage was the perfect fit for you and your family! Next time you are in town don't forget about us and we will offer you a 5% returning customer discount!
Shlee S. from Los Angeles, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2013 We had a great time in Seattle and loved the Phinney Ridge neighborhood where the cottage is located. It was perfect for our family.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Great! I am so happy this was the perfect rental for your family. The Phinney Ridge neighborhood is perfect for families who want to stay in a quiet neighborhood and also be close to restaurants and shops. I am glad you enjoyed it as much as you did. Next time you are planning a trip, don't forget all returning customers receive a 5% discount.
Lawrence G. from Denver, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in August, 2013 We LOVED our stay in Phinney Ridge at this cottage. It's a little smaller than the pictures would make it appear, especially the yard, but it's very homey and comfy, and has everything you need. We stayed for six days. It's central to everything: just off a main strip with restaurants, shops and a (pricey) market, not too far from Green Lake or other parks along the Sound, and just west of 99 (Aurora), which quickly takes you downtown. This place is perfect for a small family, as the upstairs room is its own special play place for kiddos, with games, toys, and even a night light. Street parking was iffy, but you could always find something on a nearby block. The Sea-to-Sky crew is very responsive, and the phone app is good for directions. If and when we come to Seattle again and want a home-away-from-home, we would not hesitate to book the cottage.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC What a great review, thank you Lawrence! I am so glad you enjoyed your stay so much! We would love to have you back next time you are in town. Don't forget, all returning customers receive a 5% discount.
Great location - old charming house, not made for tall people
A guest from Waunakee, WI recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2013 The location can't be beat. The house is charming but definitely older. The loft is cute but the ceiling is very low. Our 6 yr old could only stand up in one spot in the room. Older kids (ages 8-12) would likely be very frustrated. Ceiling in shower is low too. My husband (6ft) could have his head touch the ceiling and was unable to raise his arms. Loft is also very, very hot in the summer. A fan is provided, but it is still very difficult for it to get cool. Overall, the home is very cute and location is great but for the price, I don't think you should have to deal with the other issues I mentioned.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Thank you for taking the time to write us a review Kris. I am glad you enjoyed your stay regardless of the low ceilings and old charm. Others will find your review helpful when deciding if this is the right house for them. We would love to have you back as our guest, keep in mind all returning customer's receive a 5% discount for returning.
A guest from Calgary, Alberta recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2013 Our first visit to Seattle was made special by staying at the Phinney Cottage. It was a quiet home to return to after a day of visiting and excursions in Seattle. The home location is convenient, a quiet retreat at the end of the day of the family. A second toilet would be a great addition. and possibly new kitchen table and chairs. overall , a positive experience and would recommend as well as return for another visit to Seattle.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Phinney Garden Cottage! The home is perfect for a "quiet retreat" after a long day of site seeing, I can only imagine how nice that must have been after being in the heart of it all during the day. Thank you for your suggestions, I will pass them along to the owner. We would love to have you back next time you are in town and will offer you a 5% returning customer discount!
A guest from Delta, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2013 This property was great for our family and we had a wonderful stay. Two things that would have been helpful to how as a family though is where the kids are meant to sleep upstairs there is no window coverings, which we found made it to light to fall asleep easily and bright too early in the morning as well. Also while the back yard is lovely there is no fence between the neighbors on one side. This was not a problem for our older children but for our 2 year old this was a bit challenging.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea to Sky Rentals, LLC Terri, I appreciate the suggestions in your review. We have updated the window coverings upstairs so children can sleep better. I am happy you enjoyed your stay and would love to have you back. We will offer you a 5% discount for being a returning customer!
Perfect Cottage In a Great Walkable Seattle Neighborhood
Matt and Tracy B. from mooresville, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in May, 2013 The cottage was spotless and welcoming and very comfortable. The location was stellar both for walking and a starting point to explore other parts of Seattle. Linens felt as good as they smelled. The kitchen was equipped very well - only suggestion would be a coffee bean grinder and a french press :-). Overall, a lovely place to stay!
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea To Sky Hello Matt & Tracy! Thank you so much for providing a review of your stay! What a delightful way to describe your experience at the Phinney Garden Cottage. I will pass your feedback about the coffee bean grinder and french press along to our Property Manager. It's always appreciated when guests offer suggestions on how to enhance their stay. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for exclusive discounts and guest promotions! We look forward to having you stay with us again!
A guest from Severna Park, Maryland recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in January, 2013 Perfect location in relation to our son and his family - one block away. Ideal little place... much better than a hotel. Grandkids love the sleepovers in the upstairs loft!
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea To Sky Hello Stephen! Thank you so much for your wonderful review and continued business. Both are very much appreciated! You're right; that upstairs loft is a perfect little sleepover spot! We look forward to having you stay with us again.
A guest from San fransico, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 13 days in November, 2012 Phinney Cottage is very cute and in a great location. Only 1 block from lots of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and a great grocery store. The cottage is very cute, with some antique furniture that is pretty, but has some down sides: The antique toilet made noise on and off throughout our stay, the claw foot tub/ shower is charming, but for my 6'-4" husband, he couldn't stand up in it without hitting his head on the ceiling, much less get water on his head. He resorted to sitting down in the tub. (We had a good laugh over that one!). The dressers were pretty full of linens, not leaving much room for our clothes. The upstairs bedroom is up a very steep flight of stairs. It would be fine for older kids, but we ended up not using it for our infant because I didn't want to worry about stumbling down them in the middle of the night. There is a very nice yard that we didn't use because it was cold and rainy, but in the summer, it would be great. It was a nice place, well decorated, and I would recommend staying there, as long as you are okay with the above mentioned issues.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea To Sky Hello Heather! Wow! What a detailed review! Thank you so much. These kinds of reviews are helpful to us and future guests looking to stay at the property. You are absolutely right about the charming features of the bathroom and the steep stairs. We do provide a locked gate at the top of the stairs in the event you want to block entrance or exit from the upstairs bedroom! I will definitely pass along the feedback about the lack of space in the dresser to our Property Manager and Designer. I am so glad you and your family enjoyed the stay. We would love to have you back! Please keep in mind we do offer a return guest discount, so be sure to let us know when you are back in town.
A guest from Everson, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2012 We found Phinney Ridge to be a family friendly neighborhood with a safe feel. We appreciated a short walk to Ken's Market, for impressively fresh vegetables and a good selection of wine, and also had fun watching a Seahawks game at a German pub around the corner. Overall - a pleasant cottage for families with children who are comfortable with modest, non-lavish surroundings - our grandson loved the quality games and toys provided in the kid's loft. The windows with garden views and the skylights rendered an airiness and a cheery atmosphere, especially in the kitchen and loft. (Only suggestion would be not to send automated emails for rental feed-back that arrive in the middle of the night, waking me up, as that is what happened.)
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea To Sky Hello Mariah! Thank you so much for taking the time to provide a detailed review of your stay. It is helpful for us and also future guests who are trying to decide on a Sea to Sky property! We are in the process of evaluating our customer feedback requests so thank you for sharing your thoughts on the automated email system. Please keep in mind that we offer return guests 5% off their next visit. We would love to have you stay with us again!
A guest from Longboat Key, Florida recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2012 Very clean with very nice furniture. The kitchen had just about anything needed to prepare food along with a start up of cleaning/soap supplies. Easy keyless entry to house. Felt very safe. Love Ken's Market near by.
Jane E. from Boulder, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2011 The phinney garden cottage is beautifully furnished and conveniently located in the heart of one of seattle's best neighborhoods.
Great spot for two people. It would be small for a family or more
A guest from Southampton, Mass recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in September, 2011 We loved getting to know Phinney Ridge and having Green Lake to run around everyday is always a bonus. we come to Seattle often and will usually choose to rent a house or condo so we will use VRBO again, probably in the winter next. I can see that parking is an issue in this neighborhood, but we were in no hurry and did not have small children to deal with.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2011 Our family of four had a great stay there with the exception of the 3:00am carbon monoxide alarm. It was cheecked out and dealt with quickly by the management company but caused a very disrupted night.
Good out of the city location, yet close to public transp/roads
A guest from Mohnton, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2011 The second floor was cute but not very practical. The clawfoor bathtub is very dangerous for a handicapped person (which my husband is) or for someone with any balance problems. It was difficult to prevent shower spray from the head and foot of the tub. Steps from the yard to the sidewalk would have been safer with a railing. I would not recommend for anyone with ambulation problems. We had to go elsewhere for my husband to shower.
Deborah K. from Seattle, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2011 I rented this property for my brother, sister in law and their 14 month old twins.Renting portacribs and high chairs was a big plus. They enjoyed walking with the kids along Greenwood was a great introduction to Seattle.Thank you!
A guest from Fresno, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in June, 2011 We loved staying at the Phinney Garden Cottage. Everything was clean and well-maintained. We especially appreciated the well-equipped kitchen. And sitting on the front porch was just lovely. The property managers were incredibly helpful and responsive. Only 2 minor issues: the upstairs bedroom /attic has a very low ceiling, so it's really only appropriate for small children. And finding street parking can be difficult--but I think that's pretty common in Seattle. Overall, a great experience--would definitely recommend Sea to Sky to friends and family.
A guest from Edmonton, Alberta recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2011 Absolutely PERFECT for us: young parents with an 18-month old with three more family members staying 2 of the 4 days. Convenient kids package with pack n' play, toys, and highchair so we didn't have to haul it in from Canada, and child-safe environment! Bottom line, its the way to go if you have young kids who don't do well in hotels (and better value!) Was just like being at home. Wife loved the beautiful backyard and antique bathroom. I enjoyed the location which was central to almost everything in Seattle with a grocery store just around the corner. Will definitely book the cottage again when we go back to Seattle. Thanks!
A guest from Harrisonburg, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in April, 2011 Our second stay at the cottage was as delightful as the first! This time the flowers and green grass in the little yard were beautiful. We'll definitely stay again!
walker k. from Sherman Oaks, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in April, 2011 I like the staff of Sea to Sky and the property is great but we had an unfortunate set of circumstances. The pull out sleeper sofa was broken and they were unable to fix it. We also had a flea infestation and we were all bitten to bits. The staff of Sea To Sky tried to relocate us but were unable to find something suitable that was available. Oh well. Stuff happens. It would not prevent me from returning to Sea To Sky.
A guest from Waxhaw, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in February, 2011 A delightful and well placed cottage. Management was outstanding. DVD and baby toy service was ideal and beat a hotel with charm, price and location. Felt like home.
Alice C. from Novato, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in December, 2010 This Phinney Ridge home is conveniently located to all Seattle has to offer. The neighborhood is quiet, Ken's Market is close, and there are some fabulous neighborhood restaurants. That said, this cozy cottage is not for everyone. While it is immaculately clean and the furnishings are very comfortable, be aware that this is an old home with small rooms and the quirky features that come with age. If you are someone who likes lots of room to stretch out and level floors then this home is not for you. But, if you want to experience what it is like to live in a wonderful Seattle neighborhood, then this would be a pefect place to stay.
Wendy R. from Harrisonburg, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in December, 2010 This house, which is bigger than it looks from the street, was lovely and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and hope to be back to see the garden in bloom! It's perfect for two people or a family of four.
Mary S. from Queenstown, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 1 days in November, 2010 We have stayed in Phinney Garden Cottage twice--last Thanksgiving and this Thanksgiving. The house is located in a great neighborhood with a grocery store, Starbucks and restaurants within walking distance and not far from Green Lake and the Zoo. It is nicely furnished and has all of the amenities and was perfect for me and my husband. It would be suitable for a couple with one or two smaller children as the upstairs bedroom has a sloped roof and not high ceilings throughout the entire room. The only thing we had issues with was the antique commode which was temperamental.
Mary S. from Queenstown, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in November, 2010 We totally enjoyed our second stay at the Phinney Garden Cottage. It is close to Green Lake, walking distance to good pubs, Starbucks and grocery store and not far to drive downtown, Freemont and Ballard. The property is large enough for two adults and two small children but not four adults (we were only two and it was perfect) as the upstairs is only adult height in part of the room. The property is well-furnished and cozy. We were there during the snow storm and were definitely warm enough. We want to thank management for coming by at least twice and clearing off the snow for us during our stay. Our only issue was the antique commode which ran for some time after flushing no matter how careful we were. It's cute and fits in with the decor but perhaps it's time for a replacement
Diana Z. from Grosse Ile, MI recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in August, 2010 The house is quite small and aged but cleanly kept. The keypad entry system is convenient. We had trouble with the toilet flushing system throughout the stay. The bathroom floor board also needs repairing. Two other things to know are: 1)the washer really rattles the entire dinning room and kitchen area when it's spinning at full speed. 2) the attic ceiling height can really only accomodate small children.
Martyn H. from York, East Yorkshire recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in July, 2010 Great location for us as we have family living nearby. Bus stop a block away for access into the city as well as the local shops (Ken's supermarket round the corner was great). Re the accomodation itself, it was clean and we had everything we needed, furniture/beds etc all comfortable and decor was good. House overall is a bit creaky in places (more just added character as it is over 100 years old afterall) and a very small back garden for the children but pretty flower beds and a quiet location. The children loved the converted roof space bedroom although the adults had a few bumped heads! Main negative was the parking, we hired a full size car and only one side of the street can be parked on and as such you normally had to park a block away from the house, when after a full day out and 2 young children it was a bit frustrating. The other gripe was the antique toilet - looked nice but had to occasionally keep standing on a chair to adjust the cistern to get the water to fill up - minor gripes overall as really enjoyed the stay and didn't detract from the wonderful holiday we had. Would definitely use Sea to Sky again to book a property but will probably try a different property ourselves mostly because of the parking/tired children walking up hill..
A guest from Pacific Grove, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2010 I was little annoyed that upon arrival, we could not get into the house because the combination lock provided to us prior to our arrival had not been properly set. However, the agent staffing the after hours emergency number responded quickly and we were able to get in using the last tenant's code (so much for security!) We wanted to stay off-the-beaten path but not too far from it and Phinney Garden Cottage was perfect with its lush gardens! The house is quite charming but rather tiny. My husband is shy of 6 ft and barely cleared the ceiling in the shower! The bedroom is so tiny that I whacked (and severely bruised)my knee on the slightly protruding bed leg because there was so little room between it and the wall and the bedspread covered it up. I don't mean this as criticism-- just a warning to move carefully. I wouldn't recommend that more than a couple and a small child or two stay here but it had everything we needed for a lovely week-long vacation. The neighborhood was awesome with quite a lot to do without going into the city center: the zoo and Greenlake are within (longer) walking distance, the seasonal Friday Night Art Walk and Phinney Ridge Farmer's Market were wonderful experiences. There are many great restaurants in the area (highly recommend Carmelita's and Mae's Phinney Ridge Cafe), a nice grocery store to stock up on pretty much any supplies and lots of interesting shops. When we wanted to get to the city center, we were able to catch the conveniently located No. 5 bus around the corner which took us straight downtown-- thus avoiding the expense of a rental car and parking fees as well as the headache of finding parking. If you go the bus route, be sure to buy a booklet of metro tickets at Ken's grocery store to avoid having to always have exact change.... and don't rely on the bus drivers to help you find your way. Seattle's public transpo system is one of the most confusing ever but my Droid smartphone cam
Daniel N. from Honolulu, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2010 A very quiet and lovely neighborhood. I slept in the upstairs room so my daughter and grandson could sleep on the main floor. The heat vent in their bedroom was not working and my 22 month old grandson caught a nasty cold as a result, kinda dampened the week. The upstairs is cute for maybe 6 - 10 year olds. I banged my head at least 3 or 4 times on the low ceilings! The house was nicely furnished, though I was disappointed that there was no coffee bean a home in Seattle! LOL I would also suggest they put in at least one larger fry pan, hard cooking in an 8 inch peeling teflon pan. All in all, if it were just me, I'd rent it again!
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea To Sky Thank you for your feedback on the quaint Phinney Cottage! We were not aware that there was a problem with the bedroom vent until we received your comments. We had the vent repaired and it is now working properly. We apologize for your discomfort and would have sent a technician to the house immediately if you had called to inform us. The upstairs is indeed a bit tight for adults which is why our website clearly states that the ceilings are low and best suited for children, not adults. We appreciate your comments on the pans; we will definitely make improvements and purchase new pans for the home.
A guest from Sewickley, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2010 Phinney Garden Cottage lived up to its description, although the gardens were even more attractive than anticipated. The upstairs was a perfect area for our 4 and 1 1/2 year old grandchildren to play when they came to visit. The location was convenient for us, a quick walk to the grocery store and restaurants, and less than a mile from our son and family. If our son stays in the area, we will return to Phinney Garden Cottage.
Teresa C. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2010 What a great little house. Good location and access to public transportation. But bring your own pillows the ones there need to be more comfortable.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sea To Sky Thank you for your comments! We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the cottage in Phinney Ridge. We have recently replaced all the pillows in the house with hypo-allergenic high density pillows, and do so with all of our properties on an as-needed basis. Again, we thank you for bringing this to our attention!
Lovely cottage in a small neighborhood close to downtown Seattle
Mary B. from Camarillo, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2010 Suggestions: First, improve the bathroom. The bathtub is difficult to get in and out of for older people, and this could be dangerous. Secondly, there is no hair dryer in the bathroom. Finally, there is a leaky drain in the sink causing water to drain onto the wooden floorboards. If you do remodel the bathroom, the present lighting is too direct for such a small space. Lastly, the sound on the television does not work on all stations.
A guest from Anchorage, AK recommends this property. Stayed for 31 days in December, 2009 We stayed for a month here and the bus access to MT5 was easy 1 minute walk to go downtown. There is also very easy access to stores and a grocery store, library, etc.The owner was wonderful and installed a baby gate for us at the top of the stairs it was not an easy normal opening. Even though our toddler is used to using stairs at home, this gave us tremendous piece of mind as the stairs here are VERY steep as it is an older house.I also loved that there were lots of towels. There was way more than we needed, but was great when we had guests come and stay with us. We did not have to count out towels for everyone. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Mary S. from Queenstown, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in November, 2009 This cottage was just perfect for our stay--just an adult couple. It could work if you had one or two small but not really young children with you (steep steps to upstairs). We used the upstairs to store luggage. Lots to do in the neighborhood and close to much more by car. The only inconvenience to us was the lack of parking. There is only parking on one side of the street and if you are returning later in the evening, you might have to walk a block--we always found parking within this distance. We would definitely rent the cottage again.
Kirsten L. from Appleton, Wisconsin recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in October, 2009 Our family of four had a great time staying in Phinney Garden Cottage. The house was comfortable and well-appointed. The only thing missing was clocks in the bedrooms. We ended up buying an inexpensive one for the upstairs bedroom as the kids couldn't sleep without one. Would stay again if we get back to Seattle.
Robert P. from Moylan, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2009 It was cramped for sleeping 5 adults, and needs a second bathroom. We loved all the other amenities, however. Front and back porches are wonderful features.
Yasmin B. from Croissy sur Seine, Croissy sur Seine recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2009 We had a wonderful stay in Seattle at the cottage. The location is great, close to shops, restaurants, parks and a very easy drive to downtown Seattle. The cottage itself is very well equipped and comfortable for a family of 4.
Megan W. from Rockford, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2009 there were a few things about the house that were a little dangerous for our 2 toddlers. both screen doors were torn and there were very loose boards on the porch and bathroom floor. other than that it was a good stay.
A guest from Asheville, North Carolina does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2009 Other properties in Seattle would suit our desire for a pleasant stay better. This one did not work well for us as the upstairs was completely unusable for anyone - including a visiting grandchild. Therefore we had one person on the couch in the living room and an adult and a child in a bed. Way too inconvenient for the price.
Stephen C. from York, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2009 The Phinney Garden Cottage was a great place to stay. Second floor is an attic like space where you must watch you head.Greenwood Car Show was held the weekend we were there and provided an extra entertainment bonus. Cottage is close enough for lake, park and city walks and very quiet at night to rest up.Grandma, grandson and two parents did quite nicely for the week.
A guest from Burlingame, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in June, 2009 Great place to stay and a perfect location. Ideal Northwest craftsman cottage. What's bad? Owner lives next door and will appear out of nowhere to water garden...kind of too much. Bathroom celing and upstairs ideal for those under six feet in height.A few key things needed repair.
Barbara W. from Jim Thorpe, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2009 We did not spend much time there, only to sleep and eat breakfast. I found it disconcerting to see so many notes stating that if we didn't do this or that correctly, we'd be charged $50.00 hr. for not sorting the trash properly, etc......that was not welcoming to me. It seemed like you just wanted to collect more fees for this and that. Believe me, I was glad to hear that we left it in proper condition. I felt like I had to clean or I'd be charged $50.00 hr. for having a piece of lint left on the floor so I did clean and hopefully, left it almost spotless. I doubt if it took the cleaners much time to clean after we left. Our coffee pot never worked, but we didn't charge you for the coffee we had to go and buy. However, when we called, there was a new coffee pot that day which we greatly appreciated.
A guest from Tahoe City, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2009 Phinney Garden Cottage was a dream come true. We stayed 5 nights in May, had beautiful weather, and loved the garden! The cottage is in great shape, and had lots of character. The space is comfortable and charmingly decorated. We made great use of the kitchen and found it equipped with everything we needed. The barbecue was excellent as well. We loved the neighborhood, and enjoyed being on the ridge with a view east and west. The local shops and restaurants are great! Such easy access! Bus line to downtown super convenient. Parking easily available. Easy freeway access, close to Ballard and Fremont and Green Lake. We couldn't have asked for more. Very very tall people (over 6'3") would have a hard time with the shower, but my brother managed, and he is 6'1". All the beds are very comfortable, especially the pull out couch. Our experience was better than perfect.
Excellent alternative to a hotel, esp for families
A guest from Highland Park, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in April, 2009 Loved the neighborhood and enjoyed staying in the cute little cottage that was very "Seattle". Great coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance. Upstairs room is GREAT for kids, and the place has nice outdoor space. This is definitely a cottage and not fancy, but clean and tasteful and great for a more comfortable stay than would be possible in a cramped hotel room. We would stay here again if in the area and would highly recommend the cottage itself for families, and the neighborhood in general for anyone.
Robyn L. from Philomath, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in December, 2008 We couldn't have asked for more comfort in a home away from home. As a couple with teen kids, we needed a convenient, private retreat while visiting relatives in Seattle. The Cottage gave us walking distance to family, all the amenities of Phinney Ridge including the excellent Beauty College located 10 blocks North. We especially appreciated the thoughtful, simple furnishings within this ultra-clean house. The upstairs bedroom is tight, but functional for kids. We will be back.
A guest from San Francisco, California recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2008 I could not find all the recycling bins at one house and none at the other. (We rented two houses this time.)It was a very minor complication. This was the second time I have rented from the agency and everything was really perfect.
A guest from Waipahu, Hawaii recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2008 The Phinney Garden Cottage made for a relaxing vacation and easy access to coffee shops, boutiques, markets, restaurants and even a zoo! The cottage was complete with all the conveniences of home - all you had to do was pack your luggage! Thank you Sea to Sky for a wonderful stay. We'll be back.
Wayne E. from Arsta, Arsta recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2008 We had a very pleasant stay and our twins (6 year olds)enjoyed having the attic/secondfloor to themselves. Nice yard with covered porch and lush landscaping etc. Nice neighborhood with fun restaurants, pubs and cafés. I have already recommended the cottage to a couple of friends. Clean linens, nice beds, complete kitchen and fun bathroom with clawfoot tub etc..
A guest from New York, NY recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2008 I banged my head too many times in the upstairs second bedroom, but it was perfect for our infant daughter. I'd put shades on the windows upstairs, and get a real cutting board that is large enough to be truly usable. Otherwise everything else was really great. We loved the price, location, and the look of the house, especially the front porch and light-filled kitchen.
A guest from Erlangen, BAY recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2008 The description, pictures and virtual tour on the internat where very usefull. At arrival, we found exactly what whe expected. What was top: we found in the kitchen, living, bath and bedrooms really everything we needed (actually more that that:-).WLAN functioned w/o any problem and was included in the price.
Gary & Kathy H. from Billings, MT recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in March, 2008 Phinney Garden Cottage is a charming place, so nicely appointed and a fantastice location for the things we wanted to do in the downtown and university area. We would definitely stay here again.
A guest from Spokane, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2007 It was wonderful little home. Sea to Sky Rentals is a great company to deal with. I will definatley go there again.
Linda L. from Arlington, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in December, 2007 We had a pretty nice stay in December and had hoped to stay there again for three weeks this summer but the price goes up so much, it was out of the question.
Beth G. from Fort Washington, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in September, 2007 We loved our stay in the house. The home, the furnishings, the neighborhood were all just what we wanted. We walked to dinner and the store, did our errands in the neighborhood, quick and easy access to downtown Seattle all made for a perfect stay.
A guest from Pasadena, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2007 The house was perfect for our Seattle visit for a wedding.... cute garden, old-fashioned charm inside. Our kids loved the upstairs/loft area .. it was like their own hideout! The house slept four adults and two kids just fine.
