The View You Want: The House You Don't Want A guest from San Jose, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2008 To the property manager?s credit, a refund was given, the owner notified of our complaints and the advertising changed. That said, this house, suffering from years of deferred maintenance and downright neglect, was was not we expected, except for the incredible view. Advertised for 12-14 people. Bedroom 1 is advertised as a child?s twin, but the bed measured only 30 inches wide, just two inches wider than a standard crib and was only 1 ½ inches deep. The drawers of the desk had not been cleaned out, so there was no where to store clothes, except the closet that had a few hangers and mouse feces on the floor. Bedroom 2, double, lacked a closet, but did have an extremely old dresser with rotted drawer bottoms, rendering the dresser unusable. Bedroom 3, double with bunk bed. The bunk beds were not bolted together, making them unsafe. The ladder was not nattached to the bunk. Again, a dresser that is so old that the drawers are swollen shut so it was useless. There was a closet with insufficient hangers and with mouse feces. The Den, originally bedroom #5 because it had closets, did not have a clothes closet. One closet was bolted shut, one held a workbench and the other a utility closet with a broom closet and the washer/dryer. There was no dresser, so there was no where to store clothes or the bedding when couch was desired. The fold out couch is now correctly advertised as a double bed (small double). The Great Room had a futon, again advertised as a queen but has double measurements and kept sliding off its frame so it was unusable as a couch or a queen sized bed. The bathrooms were fine, except that when someone was in the shower and anyone turned on the cold water, the person was scalded. Expected in old homes with flushing toilets, but not turning on a faucet. Insufficient dishes. If cleaned, personal belongings removed, and furnished for a rental, it would be fine for 6-8 people; not configured for more. Be forewarned! |

The house is not condusive to family stays; the layout of the house is to separated. The unit next to us had 8 party guys in it Susan W. from Portland, OR does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2008 I would never stay there again nor would I use A Great Place to Stay for any future vacations. |

A guest from Eugene, OR recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in July, 2008 The view is wonderful and my mother was able to be comfortable there with her wheelchair. One caution: the house doesn't sleep 14, as we were told. 11 is realistic. The last upstairs bedroom is a sort of storage room and not available for sleeping. Great location and great views from the house! |

The View You Want - The Hassle You Don't Ron B. from Martinez, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2008 A nice old house with nice space for 8-10. We had 8 adults who arrived in 4 cars. There is supposedly parking space in the alley behind the house. It is very limited. After arriving, a woman from an apartment across the alley told us we were in her space and we had to move - albeit not immediately. Next day we are told by another guy from the property that it was fine to park where we were originally directed and the woman was wrong. LAter that day, the woman rages at us that she's called a tow truck and we'd better move, not what the other guy said. The rental agent got involved to say that she didn't know what was right, but according to the owner (who was out of town), we'd be better to park around the block - even though there are parking restrictions posted. In all, it made an otherwise nice trip, an unecessary hassle. |
