NEW to Saskia - access to FREE wireless broadband internet! ~ Chalet Location ~ The Chalet is situated in the rural traditional village of Vaujany near to the main lift station and swimming pool/sports complex. Vaujany faces the splendid "Massif des Grandes Rousses" mountains and encaptures the charm and the seduction of an authentic Alpine high altitude village. Blending tradition and modernity, Vaujany proposes visitors - top class skiing, swimming, skating, cycling and trekking facilities amongst an unspoilt environment in beautiful mountain landscapes. Vaujany benefits from a state of the art escalator which connects the top with the bottom of the village. Up the top there is the Galerie Marchande with various shops/ bars and restaurants and then there is another similar development around the main lift station at the bottom...shops, bars, restaurants, etc. The escalator connects the two and allows the people at the top of the village to ride easily down to the lift station and back again. The 160 place Cable Car systems takes you from the village at 1100 metres to 2700 metres …The next stop up is 3300 metres at the Pic Blanc looking out on to the Mont Blanc, the Grand Paradis, the Meije and the Ecrin National Park. Vaujany provides all the ingredients of which special holidays are made - for all ages! ~ Summer Activites ~ The village enjoys superb views of the wooded valley below and the snowy mountain tops above stretching to 3,500 metres. There is a small train to travel around the village and hamlets free of charge (in summer). In Vaujany you will find a Local Wildlife area, Memory centre, cinema, Hydrelec museum, 2 discos, parapenting, shops, internet cafe and some wonderful relaxing bars and restaurants both in the village and on the mountain. Cycling/Mountain biking - Vaujany is only 15 minutes from Bourg d'Oisans the cycling capital of the area. Close proximity to the famous climb to Alpe d'Huez and nearby cols such as Galibier, Lautaret and Croix de Fer. There are some exciting mountain-bike routes including the descent from Pic Blanc (3,300m) to Allemont (750m) using the cable-car for the ascent! Mountaineering - Excellent local peaks including the Rissiou (2,622m), the Etendard (3,464m) and Belledonne (2,926m). Slightly further afield (1 hour) the Parc des Ecrins offers some famous mountains such as the Meije (3,982m) and the Ecrin (4,102m) and the climbing centres of La Grave and La Berarde are well worth a visit. There is a cosy mountain hut locally at 2,300m and a whole series of strategically placed huts in the Parc des Ecrins. You are advised to take a mountain guide with you. Parapenting- The parapente school, based beside the tennis club just above La Villette, offers breathtaking tandem flights from 2,000m or 2,800m and beginners' courses by arrangement. Leisure Centre - Take advantage of the view and activities at L'Espace Loisirs (Sports and Leisure Complex) a facilities complex that allows you to stay in shape and to recuperate vital tonus. Facilities include - main pool, paddle pool, water slide, sauna, spa, jacuzzi, hammam, gym and health centre. Tennis - Situated amongst the meadows just above the hamlet of La Villette and surrounded by breathtaking scenery there is a superb tennis club with six hard courts, playground, restaurant/bar and sun-terrace. Hiking/Walking - You can wander through the surrounding meadows and woodland, take a walk to Enversin for lunch, hop on the cable car to visit the lakes or scramble up mountain paths for views of distant valleys. A waterfall or stream is never far and wild flowers are all around. Rafting - About thirty minutes away between Venosc and St Christophe (both worth a visit) is the rafting and canoeing centre 'Veneon eaux vives' offering some thrilling outings on the river accompanied by experienced instructors.
