The Grape Escape is a well-equipped wine-country house located on Haut Garrigue’s 14 hectare vineyard and winery estate. It offers commanding views across the magnificent Dordogne valley from almost every window and is surrounded by vineyards. The property provides privacy within beautiful rural surroundings although just a 10 minute walk (through the vineyards) to the scenic village of Saussignac and a 15 minute drive to the historic medieval town of Bergerac. Wildlife is abundant. Deer, hares, squirrels and many bird varieties (including owls) are regularly spotted from the house.Caroline and Sean invite interested guests to discover the property’s wines (a range of red and white) in the chai (winery) and tasting room. Short stay ‘wine-lover’ weekends are also available consisting of wine-related activities and meals organised for parties of four adults or more. At the Grape Escape the Feelys are based in the adjacent house and therefore on-hand to provide advice or assistance should it be required. There is central heating throughout. The interior is attractively finished with new furniture. A travel cot and other baby equipment can be provided on request. Kitchen / dining room: The large, well-equipped kitchen/ dining room is fitted with modern cupboards, new appliances (dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, washing machine, electric cooker (4 rings and standard size oven)) breakfast nook and a large country-style pine dining table and chairs. Sitting room/ bedroom 1: The grand room is extremely spacious and has five large double windows offering light and fabulous views. It accommodates a generous seating area furnished with comfortable sofa, wicker chairs and table on one side and a king size bed on the other. Good books, information on the area, children’s games and toys are available as well as a radio/ CD player. Bedroom 2: This room is furnished with two single beds (can be made into a double) and whitewashed drawers. Bathroom: The very large bathroom (10m2) has a shower cabinet, bath, WC, basin and views. Utility room/ walk in cupboard: The utility room / walk-in cupboard houses the washing machine and provides additional hanging and shelf space for clothes/ shoes etc if required. Outdoor area: A paved and shaded terrace, furnished with garden table, chairs, umbrella, barbeque and herb garden adjoin the house. There is a children’s play area and garden on the property. In-season fruit from our figs, cherries, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and grape vines is available for the energetic. 'Loved the gite, the views, the location and of course, the wine!' Cathy & Tony, Ireland Location Details We are close enough to Saussignac village for you to collect your baguette / croissants on the bike (2 available) or on foot each morning should you wish (about 1km). Saussignac also has a beautiful chateau where regular music and art events are held through the summer. Bordeaux with its wines, culture and history is a little over an hour away. Nearby Bergerac (15 minutes) offers excellent restaurants and shops within it’s charming medieval quarter. Gardonne (5 minutes drive) offers a basic superette, bar, restaurant, pharmacy, hairdresser and numerous other services (doctor etc). Traditional french markets take place in Gardonne, St Foy La Grande (15 minutes by car) and Bergerac (15 minutes by a car). For those keen on exploring further afield St Emilion offering charm and ‘grand-cru’ Bordeaux wines is 45 minutes away. The region is also famous for numerous chateaux and for its medieval villages like Lalinde (45 minutes). Activities Bird watching is excellent particularly at dawn and dusk. Walks can be taken on the 14 hectare estate. Our oak forest and games/ picnic field provide great entertainment for young adventurers. Biking and walking trails can be followed from the house. There is a tennis court in Saussignac. There are two golf courses within a few kilometres of the property (Chateau de Vigiers and “La Maurigne”).
