View of the house from the opposite side of the street

Description:
Picture yourself waking up in this two bedroom, two bath, 14th century house! Domme, a wonderful medieval bastide town in Perigord Noir, holds the honor of being voted one of France's most beautiful villages. Ideally situated on a quiet street, this charming house and streetscape appeared on the cover of Travel + Leisure magazine in 2003 for a cover story entitled “The Heart of French Country.”

Stroll along the esplanade in the evening to watch the sun set on the Dordogne valley below and walk the fortified ramparts around the village. The shops, bars and restaurants of Domme are a two-minute walk from the house. Domme provides an ideal location for those who want to visit Dordogne’s many places of interest or enjoy a wide range of activities. The autoroute junction just north of Souillac is only 30 minutes away and Bergerac Airport is just over an hour’s drive.

The home features two spacious bedrooms and sleeps 4 or 5 people in comfort. In addition to the traditional medieval open fireplace there is electric heating for winter. The golden sandstone walls are 600mm (nearly two feet) thick and this, along with shutters at all the windows, help keep the house cool in summer.
The house has been furnished to a high standard using a mixture of both antique and new French oak furniture. Much of the house is newly decorated.

When you wish to prepare your own meals, the ground floor boasts a spacious French country kitchen equipped with a gas cooktop, oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher. The new crockery, glass, cutlery and cooking utensils complement the inviting kitchen. Dine in the kitchen at the spacious table or enjoy outdoor dining just out the glass door which opens onto the very private garden patio.
Next to the kitchen, is the second bathroom with another shower, washbasin and toilet.
With its newly installed en-suite bathroom (shower, washbasin, and toilet), the first double bedroom is in a private annex which opens onto the patio. This bedroom provides air-conditioned comfort for any hot summer nights.

Upstairs, the attractive living room salon contains two comfortable leather sofas, a coffee table, another table and chairs and television with access to satellite channels. The day-bed offers comfortable sleeping for a fifth guest. The glass door leads to a lovely balcony with table and chairs. The stunning views of the village, the fortified ramparts, and the hills to the South make a lovely spot to relax and enjoy coffee, tea, or a digestif.

From the salon, the second bedroom is just up the stairs. The dormer windows look out to the South and West over the glorious views.

A utility room on the ground floor of the annex features a washing machine, dryer and freezer

About Domme :
On the edge of a cliff, Domme offers a vast panorama over the Dordogne valley. Enclosed by walls, this bastide village founded by Philip the Bold in 1283, tells of its glorious past through its fortified gates and towers, where Knights Templar were once imprisoned. The visitor will also discover the consuls’ and the goldsmiths’ houses, the old covered market and the governor’s hotel. Domme offers the green luxury of its suspended gardens above the Dordogne valley.
“Domme is a dream. It is a perfect little town, beautiful at first sight, even more beautiful when being visited and explored. Anyone would wax lyrical about it and for beauty it beggars description. It stands like a jewel in golden stone, on a tall hill, overlooking a switchback, winding road that heaves itself up through a just wide enough gateway and into the outer square of the town.” (Neal Lands “History, People and places in the Dordogne”).
