This beautiful period country house built in 1663 with its guesthouse, courtyard and mature gardens was offered for rental for the first time in 2003. Situated just outside the picturesque village of Saint Geniés, close to the famous medieval market town of Sarlat and 2 km from Salignac it offers a wonderful holiday location. You approach the house through gates and up a tree-lined drive. The property is enclosed on all sides giving both privacy and security. A spacious courtyard with a small covered terrace and a pain au four separates the main house and guesthouse. The stonework and laves roof are original and a special feature of this lovely house. Accommodation The entrance to the main house opens into the large lounge and dining room with quarry tiled floor and original fireplace. There is an additional external door from this room, which opens onto the rear garden. There are two rooms off the lounge, to the right and to the side of the fireplace a small private reading room and at the dining room end three steps lead to a hallway and door to courtyard, shower room with toilet and new fully equipped kitchen. The appliances include, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, gas hob and electric oven, microwave, washing machine. A staircase from the dining room leads to the large master double bedroom with custom-made beech wood king size bed. This room also has both a dual aspect and an independent stone staircase, which takes back you back down to the courtyard. There is an additional bathroom on this floor with bath, hand basin and bidet. There is also a separate toilet. The staircase continues to the second and third double bedrooms both of which are spacious, with twin beds. The entry to the guesthouse is opposite the main house, and from the courtyard and opens into a large lounge dining room. A staircase leads to the upper floor and spacious double bedroom four and double bedroom five one with a double bed and the other with twin beds. The large bathroom has a pedestal hand basin and bath with shower. There is also a separate WC. Outside the gardens are divided into two areas, one to the rear of the guesthouse and the other to the rear of the main house. There is a small gazebo, clematis and jasmine in one and mature shrubs and trees in the other. To the rear of the main house is a shaded terrace for outside dining with table and chairs and a barbecue. The location is peaceful and quiet and yet not isolated. Salignac and Saint Geniés are within minutes by car. There is an excellent boulangerie in Salignac, providing you do not bake your own in the pain au four. We are assured that customers travel as far as 15-20 kms for this quite superb bread maker. The wonderful bustling medieval market town of Sarlat is only 10 kms with the Dordogne Valley close by. The 10 metres x 5-metre swimming pool and sun terrace are to the right of the driveway and away from the main house. The pool has a removable cover which when in place extends the swimming season from April through October. The pool has roman steps at one end. Ample pool furniture is provided.
