Santa Maria di Castellabate is on the cilento coast in the undiscovered Parco Nazionale del Cilento- 50km south of Salerno and the Amalfi coast and was recently awarded the `bandiera blu` for clean seas. It is a combination of sandy bays, rocky coves, hills and inland mountains. Ideal for those wishing to enjoy the sea in a typical Italian coastal environment and yet have access to places of historical and cultural interest in the vicinity The property is ideally situated for enjoying summer activities that go with a lively summer coastal area in high season, a comfortable base for excursions to the well known Amalfi coast and discovering the Cilento region and its many traditional villages or for just relaxing and enjoying peace and quiet out of season partaking of country life when the locals tend their vines, collect their olives or prepare their plots of land with home grown produce. Excursions There are a wide selection of excursions available and within driving distance of the property: the Amalfi coast with its steep dramatic cliffs and stunning views, the villages of Vietri,Amalfi, Ravello, Positano and Sorrento further afield. The island of Capri can be visited as a day excursion and the historic sites of Paestum (20 min by car) Pompeii (1 hr car) and Velia provide a cultural insight into the historic past of the region. There are also a variety of grottoes and caves that provide a fascinating alternative as well as simply enjoying historic villages dotted about rugged hillsides where the tourists are few and far between.
