Limeuil, one of France's "Beaux Villages", is situated at the confluence of the Dordogne and Vezere Rivers. It's a small village, in earlier times a walled fortress; yet the market towns of Le Bugue (5 min) and Sarlat (30 min) are not far. The sights of the Dordogne -- chateaux, bastide towns, churches -- are within easy reach; as are sporting and river activities. The local food (duck confit, fois gras, cassoulet) and wines are among the best France has to offer. Indeed, Limeuil is an ideal location from which to explore this magnificent countryside. [P.S. March 2008 -- Just got back from a glorious week in Limeuil. Sunny and warm; early spring flowers already had transformed the landscape and my gardens. It's a terrific time to visit the Dordogne, with fine weather yet few tourists as well.]
Roomy stone house at top of village has a large front porch that faces the church, offering peace and comfort. Main floor offers a well-equipped kitchen; dining room; sitting room; library and half-bath. Upstairs are two bedrooms, two full baths, small study and utility room.
The terrace in back is surrounded by a delightful walled garden, which attracts birds and butterflies. Even in season, when Limeuil has numbers of tourists, the house and garden remain a quiet escape.
Every room gets a lot of natural light and views from windows are of either the garden, the church, the village or the Dordogne River. A most cozy and enchanting place for people who want to enjoy this magnificent area, remarkable village and lovely house. Indeed, it's ideal in summer with lots of sunshine; spring and autumn are delightful too; and winter is ever so peaceful.
