This holiday house is perfectly situated near to Sarlat in the Dordogne & allows you to visit the nearby attractions very easily, whether it be Domme, Lascaux Caves, Rocomadour, pre historic cave paintings, troglodyte houses, Sarlat town or Bergerac vineyards!!! 'A spectacular base for your holiday rental house in the perfect Dordogne location, whatever time of the year you visit' HOUSE DETAILS L'ancienne Poste is a beautiful honey coloured stone three bedroom, three bathroom family home, which was formally the village Post Office, parts of which date from the 13th century. The main living, dining & kitchen area & all the bedrooms have far reaching views across the Dordogne river to 4 Chateaux. The Kitchen leads onto the south east facing terrace, with table & chairs for sunny al fresco breakfasts & shaded evening meals with a glass of Bergerac wine. The Garden Bedroom, with it's ensuite bathroom, carved wooden double bed & medieval stone archway, has French Doors opening onto the south facing garden. The Balcony Bedroom has a Kingsize double bed, an ensuite shower room, a ceiling fan & double French doors opening onto the panoramic views of the Dordogne Valley below. The Vaulted bedroom has a double & a single bed, a beautiful vaulted beamed ceiling with ceiling fans & an ensuite shower room. The views of the Dordogne from this room are really spectacular. For your arrival all the beds will be made up with crisp white cotton bedlinen & the bathrooms will have white towels provided, two per person. The main south facing garden & terraces overlook the river & Chateaux, where you can sit under a tree & day dream, read or sip a glass of Bergerac wine. A perfect place to watch the world pass you by on the Dordogne river below. To the side of the property is the private pool with sun decking & a shaded flower covered seating area. There are ample sun loungers & chairs for all our guests. L'ancienne Poste is accessible by car & has the advantage of a private covered garage (formerly the village forge), which is a rarity in this medieval village. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE VILLAGE & AREA L'ancienne Poste is set on the banks of the gently flowing Dordogne river overlooking 4 chateaux & one of the historic sites of the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) between England & France. The stunningly romantic village of Beynac, which rises dramatically from the valley floor & which was once the home of Richard the Lionheart, will enchant & captivate you at every turn, from its narrow medieval streets lined with soft honey coloured stone houses, shops, art galleries & restaurants to its magnificent Chateau, perched high on top the cliff, which has majestically watched over the Dordogne valley since 1150. You may already be familiar with Beynac & the surrounding Dordogne Valley area from watching such films as 'Chocolat', 'Joan of Arc', 'The Musketeer' and 'Timeline'. This is one of the loveliest stretches of the Dordogne river, a 'not to be missed' stop for any traveller. The central Perigord Noir location allows you to visit the nearby attractions very easily, whether it be the world famous prehistoric cave paintings at Lascaux, or the World Heritage Classified Vezere Valley with its many Stone Age relics and cave paintings dating from 20,000 years ago. Maybe, you might like to visit the vineyards of Bergerac & St.Emilion, or the perfectly preserved medieval town of Sarlat & some of the many fortified castles & Bastide towns which are all within a short drive from Beynac. If you wish to go Hot Air Ballooning as the sun rises over the surrounding castles that can be arranged too. It is all here for you to do whether its drifting down the river in a canoe or eating in a Michelin starred restaurant, we will try our best to arrange it for you - even the sunshine.
