18th Century cottage recently renovated to conserve original beams, large stone fireplace and exposed stone walls, but with all the modern conforts such as one luxury en suite bathroom with WC, one shower room and separate WC, a Jotul woodburner in the Salon plus radiant electric radiators for back up heating in the winter, and a high degree of insulation. Hazelnut Cottage is furnished with a mixture of antique and modern furniture, with comfortable beds and high quality linen, duvets etc Sleeps 4 in two separate bedrooms (one on the top floor and one on the lower garden level, plus there is a sofa bed in the Salon on the middle level. The cottage is really ideal for four adults or a family with two children but is equipped for six so you can have guests to stay perhaps. Set in a magical 'cottage style' garden with herbs, climbing roses, bamboo and flowering shrubs and mature trees, with BBQ and for cooling off on those hot summer days a high quality solid wood-framed above-ground pool (6m x 3m - approx 1.2m depth) with wooden sun terrace and sunloungers. A 'Welcome Pack' of wine/bread/fruit/cheese sets your holiday off to a relaxed start and the cottage offers a library of French and English books, and a folder full of leaflets and brochures with information on local attractions, where to eat, where to taste and buy the local wines, the rivers and Chateaux to explore and visit. Remember - the Dordogne is known as the 'land of 1000 Chateaux' and this is no exaggeration! Situated midway between Bergerac and Perigueux, in an area of woodland tracks, small farms and vineyards there is a multitude of things to do, where you can breathe in the atmosphere of centures of history. There are many country auberges where you can sample the local produce and Bergerac is only 20 mins drive with the river Dordogne and a wealth of lovely small shops and restaurants in its pedestrianised medieval centre. It's less than an hour to the famous Lascaux caves and the valley of the Vézère with the Les Eyzies National Museum of Prehistory - that's if you can find the time in between sampling the local wines and just enjoying being in France! Unlimited access to Internet via computer/printer - no broadband yet, sorry!
