Marin

Cross the Golden Gate Bridge (an event in itself!) and it’s often 10 degrees warmer in the Mediterranean-style village of Sausalito. From the
rugged Marin Headlands jutting into the Pacific north of the Golden Gate Bridge to the protected meadows and marshland of Point Reyes National
Seashore, Marin County feels like another world, large parts of it untouched since Sir Francis Drake landed in the Golden Hinde.

Spend the Day with an Angel
Most tourists head for Alcatraz, but neighboring Angel Island is a gem of the California State Park System with a fascinating military and
cultural history ranging from the Miwok Indians to the Cold War. On a clear day—also known as a “five-bridge day”—you can enjoy a panorama
that includes the Golden Gate, Bay, Richmond/San Rafael, San Mateo and Dumbarton bridges from atop Mt. Livermore. There are 13 miles of trails
for hiking and an eight-mile-long bike trail encircling the island—a short ferry ride from downtown Tiburon.

Shuck an Oyster
Tomales Bay is one of the nation's most pristine estuaries and Drakes Estero, deep inside the Point Reyes National Seashore, remained virtually
untouched since Sir Francis Drake himself came ashore in 1579. Half a dozen farmers harvest a rich crop of local oysters, shipping them to fine
restaurants and oyster bars in the Bay Area and as far away as New York City’s Four Seasons. They say the oyster tastes sweeter when you do the
shucking. At Hog Island Oyster Co. in Marshall, you shuck your own fresh oysters, barbecue them in garlic, butter, lemon and a dash of Tabasco
and enjoy them with beer and at the water’s edge.

Come to (All Five of) Your Senses
The natural abundance of Point Reyes National Seashore is positively heady. A range of Point Reyes National Seashore Association Field Seminars
such as “Stalking the Wild Mushroom,” “Radical Raptors!” and “Earth to Art” help city folk begin to sort it all out. Field Seminar offerings
change with season. You can browse the current selection and register online at http://www.ptreyes.org/field/fshome.html.
