Matinicus island is two miles long by about one mile wide with over 750 acres filled with hundreds of species of plants. Explore the many hiking trails to nearby bird sanctuaries, Hemlock forests, rocky ledge points, and other beautiful swimming beaches. Enjoy the sunrise over the nearby islands as you sip your morning coffee on the deck and watch the small lobstering village slowly come to life as lobstermen steam out to haul and land lobster that are later delivered right to your door! Fresh bakery goods can also be delivered to your door by a local baker.
This spacious (1000 sq/ft) two-story cottage comfortably sleeps six people and is charmingly furnished and ideal for two couples to share. The first floor has a queen bed in one bedroom, and a queen bed & two twin beds in the other. A full bathroom is accessed from the common hallway and a large deck overlooks the ocean. The second floor has a large oak dining table (seats 6) and a fully equipped kitchen. An open and spacious living area, with easy chair and two couches (one is double fold-out bed), opens to a deck overlooking the open-ocean and nearby islands. There is also something very emotionally and spiritually healing about Matinicus Island ... perhaps it has to do with the limitless expanse of water, the quiet serenity, and the beautiful surroundings. There is more time and solitude for reflection and inner peace on Matinicus ... far away from the hustle & bustle of daily hectic life in a increasingly complicated world. Matinicus Island's lack of the "distractions" of commerce and its very serene surroundings allow couples and families more opportunities to bond and re-establish close relationships.
